Mnangagwa better than Bob: Tsvangirai

via Mnangagwa better than Bob: Tsvangirai 29 June 2014

OPPOSITION MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai says he would rather have Vice President Joice Mujuru or Justice Minister Emmerson Manangwa emerge to lead the country as opposed to Robert Mugabe cling on as State President.

Tsvangirai told supporters at a rally in Seke communal lands weekend that Mnangagwa and Mujuru were much younger that Mugabe and would not be as stubborn as his 90-year-old rival in dealing with the country’s deep economic problems.

“We must set a clear direction where this country is going, an economic plan that will make industry and farms work,” Tsvangirai said.

“The issue in Zimbabwe is not economic but political; we need a political plan. No one is going to invest in a country with a 90-year-old leader. Mujuru or Mnangagwa are far much better than him.

He must graciously retire now and leave this to others. Zvinotovanani (it’s far much better).”

Mujuru and Mnangagwa are currently locked in a silent but bitter succession battle as it becomes apparent the aging Mugabe’s political career could soon be brought to an end through advanced age.

The succession battle has intensified as the liberation war movement draws closer to its elective congress in December this year.

Mugabe has led Zanu PF for close to four decades and has been State leader since majority rule 34 years ago.

Despite clear signs his political career is in its twilight period, a cunning Mugabe has stubbornly refused to give the smallest hint over his preferred successor.

Tsvangirai described his long time political foe as “the past” that Zimbabwe needed to break away from.

“The future is dark, there are no jobs. It’s been a tough journey for Zimbabweans,” he said.

“Look at China. It took a bold decision 30 years ago. After the death of Mao (tse Tung), China took a deliberate decision to do away with communism and embraced a market driven economy and now we can see how they have benefited from that bold decision.

“Zimbabwe needs that and Mugabe is the past; we must set the direction that will make this country work again.”

From what Tsvangirai is quoted as saying, I guess his Zanu PF preferences indicate he will not be in power anytime soon.

Dr. Tsvangirai, with a doctorate from China. Speak out Dr. Richards. China transformed itself when baBona was already in power, while baBona developed a populist approach, China went for market driven economy. Now 30 years down BaBona takes his begging bowl to China

Thembani, it seems you will always look for anything to hammer MT. President Tsvangirai is only saying its better to have a younger man than the current 90year old man. You unfortunately extrapolate that to say he has sanctioned Mnangagwa to be the President.

Apparently I have read your comments and seem to promote tribalism and hammer MT at all cost, and your anger is never directed to ZANU, the Philistine Party which has continued to torment all the Children of Zimbabwe.

Forgive me, I now suspect you are a CIO.

Sorry for not sharing your similar views with you, but this is normal. Mnangagwa is a Gukurahundi like it or not, and in that ,anyone who even considers him for a future president is backing a Gugurahundi.anywhere don’t you think it is strange that your president who claims to be fighting ZANU actually considers leaders from ZANU as future presidents. Is it not an indication that he has no plans to lead the country at all?, but to just remain as an opposition leader.I was an MDC supporter up until l I realized that the leader Tsvangirai was taking the party nowhere. He is a good opposition leader but will never be the countries president.

How did Tsvangirai come up with Mnangagwa’s name as Bob’s replacement? When did Tsvangirai become kingmaker in Zanu pf? Is it that Tsvangirai doesn’t imagine himself anywhere near State House, and has resorted to involving himself in the Zanu pf power struggles? By leaving Morgan, maybe Biti had a point. Morgan is weak.

Tsvangirai you must be very careful about what you say. What kind of leader are you, who aspires for other leaders to lead him. Mai Mujuru yes she is level headed. You cannot suggest Mnangagwa. He is a worse psychopath that Mugabe and Grace combined. Mnangagwa will mean the end of Zimbabwe

Just why does everyone think Mugabe has to appoint a successor, who does he think he is, does he not preside over a democratic country, read the constitution….
