Mother of the nation

via Mother of the nation The Zimbabwean 14 January 2015

Evictees photographed in the aftermath are seen standing next to piles of smoking ash, where their homes once stood – some of them clearly in tears.

Seeing those pictures, you’ve got to wonder – how does the perpetrator sleep at night? For every destitute person Grace has helped at her orphanage, she has created 50 more vagrants. In her ‘meet the people’ speeches, Grace Mugabe spoke ad nauseam about being ‘chosen by Gaad.’

She and her husband fly – at our expense – to the Vatican. They have even met the Pope. What priest will grant absolution to one who repeatedly commits these callous acts? At what point will the First Lady’s thirst for land be quenched? Grace continually attempts to force herself up the country, calling herself ‘amai.’ If indeed she is the ‘mother of the nation,’ by these heartless acts, Grace Mugabe has behaved like the proverbial hen that cannibalises its own eggs – huku inodya mazai ayo.

One philosopher once wrote ‘avarice is an insatiable beast.’ Some wise cynic also said ‘you can’t take it with you when you die.’ Robert Mugabe will be 91 in a month’s time. His health is fading. When he speaks, the lectern is necessary, not only for holding his prepared speech but also for holding onto. With a foot in the grave, Robert Mugabe may no longer be interested in acquiring more wealth. But his wife, 40years younger, continues to milk the cow – dairy pun intended – showing no sign she will reach her limit any time soon.
