Information minister Jonathan Moyo yesterday failed to turn up at Parliament to table the much-awaited Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) audit report which details the rot at the State broadcaster.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Media, Information and Broadcasting Services had summoned Moyo to table the report and inform MPs on what government was doing to solve the crisis bedevilling the national broadcaster.

But after waiting for more than 30 minutes, portfolio committee chairperson William Dehwa announced that Moyo was not coming and would instead avail himself next week.

“He has sent an apology and promised to come next week,” Dehwa said.

Audit firm KPMG was hired by government to carry out a forensic investigation into the operations of the broadcaster after revelations that senior management and the board of directors were conniving to fleece the parastatal of its resources through enormous salaries and sitting allowances.

The top management was paying itself hefty salaries and allowances while workers had gone for months without pay.

After the unearthing of the salary scandals and management malpractices, Moyo dismissed the then ZBC board which was led by Cuthbert Dube and sent chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere on suspension to allow an audit.

In March, the ZBC board now led by Gibson Munyoro appeared before the same committee, but failed to table the forensic report which detailed how the national broadcaster had been run down by the previous management.

Munyoro said he had no mandate to present the report as it was Moyo’s responsibility.
