via Mugabe out of touch with reality – DailyNews Live 31 August 2015
HARARE – President Robert Mugabe’s continued attacks on political rivals at a time the economy is imploding, is a sure sign that he is out of depth with issues confronting Zimbabwe.
No one expects the president to insult both the dead and the living when there are pressing issues that need his urgent attention.
On Saturday, Mugabe, 91, poured scorn on political rivals by labelling them sell-outs and declared they would not be buried at the Heroes Acre.
“They are saying we also want to be buried there but we are saying to them we have many hills in the country, you can build your own but here no. We said it does not happen and it will not happen even when we are dead.”
At the moment, Zimbabweans don’t care about who should be buried at the controversial Heroes Acre because they are struggling to make ends meet as a result of deteriorating living standards — being fuelled by the Zanu PF-led government’s policies.
To add insult to injury, the ageing leader had earlier in the week failed to inspire hope that his government would turn around the economy, instead, he presented a damp squib state-of-the-nation address in which he laid out a 10-point plan which economists say is nothing more than just a plan.
At this juncture, we would expect Mugabe to act on the bloated civil service which has thousands of ghost workers who are gobbling 80 percent of the national budget.
In moments like these, Zimbabweans would expect their government to introduce austerity measures to stem the cash squeeze which is throttling the economy.
We would have expected government to have trimmed the civil service, parliament, cabinet and cut allowances as part of reforms aimed at freeing money for the productive sector and capital projects.
It does not help Mugabe and his Zanu PF government to treat the job cuts by the private sector in isolation.
But clearly, Mugabe and Zanu PF would rather have the civil service intact for political expediency than right-sizing it, even though it is draining the cash-strapped government.
This is where we are; a tipping point and the sooner Mugabe and his colleagues realise it, the better.
Continuing to insult political rivals without addressing the concerns they are raising is a futile exercise.
Zimbabweans take umbrage with poor leadership such as the one being shown by Mugabe.
They expect his government to turn around the economy not telling us who qualifies to be buried at the Heroes Acre.

it is the sign of someone clinging on to something that is not his .
the sooner he leaves the better for all.
@owen, Mugabe doesn’t know any other language but the language of insults, the language of terror, the language of intimidation and violence.
He considers his rivals not as opponents but as enemies who deserve to be killed.
Such is Mugabe, he clearly does not belong to this century but to some stone age era. This is the reason why he is trying his best to make Zimbabwe a ruin so it depicts a stone age era he comfortably fits in.
The chief thief can more properly be likened unto the captain of a pirate ship who serves and enjoys his high office only at the pleasure of the ships’ crew. He must be able to discover and deliver ‘patronage opportunities’ for himself and the crew continuously lest a mutiny can happen and a new chief thief appointed. So you see, he could not do anything about the corruption and perfidy even it he wanted to. When he goes to the other side there are multitudes eager to replace him. Only some force like a Navy with stout ropes attached to the yards can ever clean up Zimbabwe.
