The Zanu-PF Politburo meets in Harare today in a crunch meeting expected to discuss allegations of extortion, corruption, subversion and abuse of office levelled against the party’s Second Secretary and Vice President Joice Mujuru.

The allegations are expected to be discussed when outgoing Zanu-PF Women’s League Secretary Cde Oppah Muchinguri presents a report on the “Meet the people” rallies the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe held countrywide recently where the allegations popped up.

The report was supposed to be tabled in a Politburo meeting last week, but Cde Muchinguri said she did not know that the issue was on the agenda.

Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa said yesterday that the Politburo meeting would go on barring any eventualities.

“If nothing disturbs it, then it will definitely be there,” he said.

Party Information and Publicity secretary Cde Rugare Gumbo said the meeting would be a continuation of last week’s meeting.

“The meeting is on today and we expect to continue from where we left last week, that is discussing about the congress preparations and the report that we expect from Cde Muchinguri on the meetings held by the First Lady,” he said.

Expectations are high on how the party would deal with VP Mujuru following the allegations raised by Amai Mugabe, who was nominated to take over as Women’s League boss at congress, expected to be held in Harare from December 2 to 7.

During her tours, Amai Mugabe made some insights into the unacceptable behaviour of VP Mujuru which included corruption and undermining the authority of the President. She asked the VP to resign or risk being dumped at the National People’s Congress in December.

Amai Mugabe levelled allegations of illicit diamond dealings, extortion and bribery against VP Mujuru, saying she had been extorting 10 percent shareholding in several companies.

The Politburo is also expected to be briefed by various committees for congress preparations, dealing with portfolios on what they were doing in preparing for the big event.

Some of the activities that were being carried out included fund raising and drafting of guidelines to elect Central Committee members.

As of last Friday, the party had raised $3 million out of a budgeted $8 million needed to successfully host the event in Harare.
