Pray for Mugabe to understand crisis — Tsvangirai

via Pray for Mugabe to understand crisis — Tsvangirai December 18, 2014

MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday said Zimbabweans should pray for President Robert Mugabe to understand the crisis bedevilling the country and ignore “sideshows” in his ruling Zanu PF.

Addressing journalists in Harare, Tsvangirai admitted that he could not go it alone as there was need for “democratic fighters” in the likes of MDC Renewal Team secretary-general Tendai Biti and MDC leader Welshman Ncube to consider negotiating with a view to unite.

The ex-Premier said Zimbabwe was in a mess and could not afford a “merry Christmas”.

“Let us pray for this nation and its leadership in government so that their quest for power and control does not distract them from their responsibility to govern us well,” Tsvangirai said. “Let us pray for Mugabe so that he understands the enormity of the national plight, so that he considers the national crisis as more important than any other needless political sideshow because it is his party that is in government.”

He said developments in Zanu PF were a tragedy.

“You see a fractured party failing to deal with a national crisis. Given what is happening in Zanu PF, they have a choice of accommodation or confrontation with the people. Accommodation in the sense that anybody who can think they can run this country exclusively by a small cliqué cannot provide an answer,” Tsvangirai said.

“We can’t watch the status quo and resign to fate. Action will come because people have their back against the wall and the logic is to mobilise themselves legally to get a solution to the national crisis,” Tsvangirai said. “We believe in the unity of purpose. I see my colleagues organising into a coalition, but what we can state is that a big tent approach means that all democratic forces must unite regardless of personal issues and egos.

“The time to unite for the end game is beckoning. I, for one, would be prepared to consider that seriously and the sooner people decide how to unite and form a political solution, the better.”
