Gunmen of Mozambique’s former rebel movement Renamo on Saturday morning attacked the village of Matenje, in Chiuta district, in the western province of Tete, reports the Beira daily paper “Diario de Mocambique”.

The gunmen vandalized the police station, the health post and the administrative building in Matenje, which once housed the Renamo Tete provincial base during the war of destabilisation.

The Tete police confirmed the attack, but said nobody had been killed in the raid. Eye-witnesses told the paper that administrative staff in the village had fled to the small town of Kazula, about 45 kilometres away. They also said the Renamo attackers had seized a gun from the police station, but the police denied this.

Meanwhile ambushes have continued on the stretch of the main north-south highway between the Save river and the town of Muxungue, in the central province of Sofala. According to a Mozambican military source cited by the Portuguese news agency Lusa, on Friday Renamo killed two people and injured four others in an attack against a convoy.

The ambush took place in the Zove area, a few kilometres south of Muxungue, and one of Renamo’s favourite spots for firing on the convoys.

The target was a bus. A man and a woman among the passengers were killed, and four others were wounded.

Between Wednesday and Friday there were two attacks a day against the convoys.

Read the Mail And Guardian’s investigative journalism “AMABUNGWE” and a good description of the leader and his family is given in “aloota continua”of how colonialist Africa has been looted for personal gain by a predatatory black elite who care nothing for those they claim to have liberated.

RENAMO has been loyal to the peace agreement. However , nothing tangible was done by FRELIMO in terms of oncorporating former RENAMO soldiers into the national army.Instead of merging, FRELIMOP purges and arrest them.Chissano managed to keep Dhlakama quiete because of his kindness and honesty. This current regime in Mozambique has got mafias and miscalculate events. Its a lessen to all presiding leaders, treat opposition with respect and hear their concerns. That way we can save civilian casualties which must be at zero level.
Peace in Mozambique is critical for Zim economic growth. If the war goes full blown, then RENAMO might operate from the borders of Zimbabwe.Once again ,we need to call upon respected clergies to intervene. One life lost is a tragedy, war brings deprivation.

Any woes of Southern and Central can be blamed on The Southern African Development Community SADEC. It’s Mission Statement is to promote sustainable and equitable economic growth and socio-economic development through efficient, productive systems, deeper co-operation and integration, good governance, and durable peace and security; so that the region emerges as a competitive and effective player in international relations and the world economy. Does it follow this? No ,it does the exact opposite.

How does Renamo be a “former rebel movement” when it is currently a rebel movement. I hope the rebel activities do not spill over into Zimbabwe.
