We’re hungry!, Zanu PF man shouts at VP

VICE President Phelekezela Mphoko was Saturday heckled by a Makokoba man while addressing party supporters at the official launch of the party’s by-election campaign in the suburb.

Zanu PF is poised to land some seats in the city, dominated by the Movement for Democratic Change for the past two decades, in the June 10 by-elections after the main opposition boycotted the mini elections.

A few minutes into his address, Mphoko was interrupted by a man in the crowd who kept shouting, “Silambile” (We are hungry).

Mphoko ordered the man to keep quiet but he continued until the vice president ordered that he removed from the crowd.

An alert police officer who was controlling the crowd ordered the man to leave but he refused to budge, forcing one of Mphoko security details to forcibly remove him.

However, Mphoko quickly changed his stance, ordering the man to be left alone but be sternly warned him to stop disturbing his address.

But it was rather too late as his security details had already removed the “troublemaker”.

Returning to his address, the Vice President said Bulawayo was in a shambles due to factionalism and party splits.

“We have war veterans on one side, the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai, MDC led by Welshman (Ncube), and now we have MDC led by (Tendai) Biti and Zapu led by D.D. (Dumiso Dabengwa),” said Mphoko.

He also attacked the Mujuru faction for causing havoc in the province by sponsoring certain individuals to challenge the party.

“We also have these individuals, thieves who sponsor people. Maybe this man who was making noise earlier was sponsored by them. They come from other provinces to sponsor people here in Bulawayo because they people here are not empowered.

“They do this for their political influence, economic influence. We are easily swayed,” said Mphoko.

He also castigated Bulawayo citizens for allowing various political parties to build their popularity in the city at the expense of Zanu PF.

Mphoko said the city of Bulawayo was endowed with a lot of riches and even the biggest factories in the country are located here.

Hammered … A drunk supporter amuses the crowd, rolling on the ground

He said government was not disbursing money meant for development because people are voting for the wrong party.

“Whether you like it or you don’t, Zanu PF, is the ruling party, all these other parties are watching from the terraces. We have become poor as a city and we must locate the source of the problem,” he said.

The Vice President also took a swipe at the Bulawayo City Council for failing to protect a scared portion of land on the outskirts of the city by parcelling it out for commercial activities.

The area which separates Northend suburb and the city centre, was used by King Lobengula to conduct the annual Inxwala Festival.

The city council usually hires out a portion of the land to a private company, Odysseus Adventures, which runs the Luna Park.

Zanu PF candidate in the Makokoba constituency Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, was conspicuous with his absence as he is reportedly in India for medical attention.

His chief election agent, Morewell Ndlovu spoke on his behalf promising to bring development, to the city’s oldest suburb.

Tshinga will battle it out for the seat with six other candidates for the constituency.

SHAME SHAME SHAME For using economics as a reason to force people to vote for your party mphoko , The fact that zanu has constantly failed at implementation of its policy’s and its constant use of oppression of citizens is the reason people do not vote for your party zanu pf . Now at least the people of Bulawayo know that your party does not have their interests at heart in fact Your party has not had the interest of zimbabwe for the past 35 years
Any government that refuses to develop sections of its country because they vote for the opposition has serious problems wrong with it , you cannot cut your arm off because it supports the hand . this remark by mphoko(( Government was not DISBURSING money meant for development to bulawayo BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE VOTING FOR THE WRONG PARTY.))shows the diversionary and separatist policy’s employed by zanu pf to maintain its grip on power , it does not surprise me in the least that as well as that they employ politics of food for votes and assistance to farmers 1year before crucial voting times. Not surprisingly the branch does not fall far from the tree . Mugabe berated Harare and Bulawayo provinces for voting for MDC. He said: “Those who voted for MDC-T go and get what you voted for from MDC-T.”

“He said government was not disbursing money meant for development because people are voting for the wrong party.” Seriously?

I cannot believe that this can be a deliberate policy by any government.

But I also thought about it and realised that no other part of the country has been developed anyway. What development has there been in Mash Central where they ‘vote’ Zanu PF perenially? Or Mash East? The whole country has not developed in the last 20 years and so maybe noone is voting Zanu PF in the whole country.
