A HOUSE in Budiriro belonging to Zanu PF Harare youth league chair, Godwin Gomwe, was petrol-bombed by unknown assailants on Friday night, it has emerged.

The attack comes after the MDC-T MP for the area, Costa Machingauta, was assaulted by suspected Zanu PF supporters.

Harare Police spokesperson, Memory Pamire said she retired from the ZRP last week and referred questions to national police spokesman, Paul Nyathi, who was unavailable for a comment.

Gomwe was instrumental in the Zanu PF campaign which led to the ouster of former vice president Joice Mujuru

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com Saturday, he confirmed the attack on his house adding he suspects either opposition MDC-T supporters or “rebel Zanu PF members”.

He however, referred questions to party boss, Innocent Hamandishe, the secretary for commissariat in the Zanu PF youth league.

“It’s true my house in Budiriro was attacked but for more comments on the issue, kindly get in touch with my boss, the national PC of our youth league, Cde Hamandishe,” he said.

Hamandishe said they suspected Mujuru’s allies were behind the attack adding that “we want to warn them that whatever they are planning to do will fail”.

“Our suspects are these people from that dead project called the People’s First,” he said.

“We know they would want to have Cde Gomwe out of the way and take Zanu PF youths to their dead project.

“But thank God it failed only windows were damaged and the petrol bombs which they threw here failed to explode.”

He also said the MDC-T party remained prime suspects given the “violent nature of the party”.

“We have informed the police and leave it to them for further information.”

In the build up to the Zanu PF’s elective congress, Gomwe and six other provincial youth league chairpersons joined First Lady Grace Mugabe in leading a campaign against Mujuru whom they accused of plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe.
