Water shortages hit Harare

The current water shortages being experienced in Harare have been attributed to the ongoing upgrading of the Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant.

Leslie Gwindi, Harare City Council spokesperson, said the shortages were a result of decommissioning of some pumps.

“Some pumps were decommissioned under the ZimFund rehabilitation exercise,” Gwindi told the Daily News. “Residents were warned late last year of the impending water shortages as a result of the decommissioning.”

On average, the city council produces 470 mega litres per day against a demand of 900 mega litres to cater for a population of 2,5 million.

“The city is actively looking into the technical challenges with a view of addressing them without compromising service delivery,” Gwindi said. “We apologise for any inconveniences that residents are experiencing during this period.”

A bit late on the “without compromising service delivery”. That horse escape a long time ago. Where does this Gwindi live?

It is so annoying to read a useless statement from somebody so over paid. You give a statement as if Harare city has ever made reasonable water supply to its residents in the past many years.Places like Highlands and others have not had city water for the past 8 years and you claim the current worsening situation on water is due to decommissioning of pumps. I think you are not telling us the truth because you looting the funds through your very high salaries.
Why not run the old pumps and the new pumps in parallel network and then start decommissioning the old ones gradually. Please do not tell me that you have no spare space to install the new pumps before decommissioning the old pumps when we have plenty of land in Africa. This is my first time to hear that a city goes without water due to decommissioning of the current pumps to make way for the new pumps.

Lies and more lies. People be wise, these thieves are in it for themselves. Boycott payment of services because they are nonexistent.

Water shortage hit Harare !!!! — we have not had any municipal water in over half the city for the past 5 years !!!
The water crisis in Harare is explosive — watch when the groundwater completely runs out in the next 2 to 3 years.
The Harare water situation should be the number one priority in the city. But hey – who cares. Just congratulate mudhara on his 99 birthday, give him 99 beasts, and put in for an salary increment.

I hope the sewage pipes burst right under Bob and Disgrace’s seats on their (or is it her )daughter’s wedding. That would be a wedding present fit for scumbags like these.
