Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has reportedly showered Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe with praise, saying there was no land reform system that had worked successfully for Africa other than Zimbabwe’s land reform programme.
Speaking during a media conference in Johannesburg, Malema said in the next 20 years Zimbabwe would be the only African country where people owned their own land, according to a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation report.
Malema said the Zimbabwean policy on land reform was a lesson to be learnt from and to be implemented in South Africa, “except the initial violent method of attacking white people or attacking each other”.
According to an Eyewitness News report, Malema said although Zimbabweans may be hungry and poor today, they could be proud of the fact that they owned property while South Africans had nothing to show as proof that they belonged to South Africa.
The EEF leader said Western powers were attacking Zimbabwe to scare South Africans from engaging in any agrarian reform.
He said the result of Zimbabwe’s 2013 elections was scientific evidence that the people of Zimbabwe were happy about the land reform, particularly the rural masses who now had access to land.

Zim importing maize again I read from South Africa. with Malema brainy idea where will zim import from after south Africa becomes like Zim? Oh yes forgot our lovely new colonisers the Chinese might give us some dogs to feast on as food aid. Doesn’t matter how big you piece of land is…one needs brains, experience and not be weekend cell phone farmers to work the land. Zim been importing food and getting food aid from the west over the last decade which is proof that it has failed in Zim. The real reason why Malema wants to follow Mugabe is so that he can seriously line his pocket, and since the rule of law would then be absent, he will not get prosecuted.
Creating starvation is a very viable option for liberation movements who become unpopular. keeping the masses hungry is a great way to control how they vote especially when that liberation movement controls distribution of food. Soon Southern Africa will have no food security so beware!
How many corruption charges is Malema facing? Plenty, hopefully he will be serving a long prison sentance before the election. I do not know why people take cognizance of this evil fool. The next step is for citizens to own the economic asset value of the land. No title deeds no ownership. The state can always manupulate land owners to achieve its interests. No title deeds no asset value of land. Zimbabwe will go for another land reform.

Conclusion: There are powerful ministers in RSA who admire the Zimbabwean method of land reform, besides Juju. The may just want to implement their hero’s (RGM’s) methods after the 2014 elections.

The future tells us to learn from each other. The land we have today belongs to God. We are just managers. Its more than land, there are systems on this land. To hold land without a system actually devalues the land. We had land before the Europeans came. The Chinese had land before the Europeans went there. When we compare the two both had not much to hold on. It is the systems that operate on this land that is more important. The same as the West. There was a lot of land with nothing there. It is the systems that we need to generate and the markets in order to operate the land. Yes people need to own their own land, I totally agree, but I suggest we go on further than that. We need to train our people to know and operate systems that benefit the assets they hold. Whether it is mines, businesses that we own, or whatever, I agree that Africans, or Chinese or whoever need to hold some asset if they can use it. Let us remember that this is now a global village, in which we depend on each other. Therefore the assets that we hold must be employed to generate wealth, not just to hold for the sake of ownership. The easiest method is to lease the land to business prospectors, or to enter into partnerships with those that know so that we can learn and use these assets to generate wealth. Additionally, research needs to be done. We need to come up with African journals in which university students, business people, academicians, and such like can write about our economies and come up with discussions on how to go forward before we plunge into the unknown. We need to be careful to not destroy the systems and investments that have been poured into these assets by running to have ownership. Zimbabwe had twenty years before land was distributed, and into those years much more could have been done to discuss and plan and train our people and alternatives made which could have seen a smooth transfer of land. We had only one plan which did not work as the West pulled back and we were left with no alternative but to effect immediate take over and destroyed the systems that operated those farms. I really feel that we have enough education and drive to set forth our energies into this and should any other country that desires to assume ownership of land. It is more than land, it is the systems that operate that land that we also need to preserve, including the industries. Remember that it is a tripod-land, financing, and industry. Break the one, and the tripod collapses and we become worse than it was before the Europeans came. The Europeans came with a plan. They did not get land to just sit on it. The Europeans went to China with a plan. That is why China has risen since the days of Deng.
Malema is uneducated and therefore incapable of understanding the many complex issues associated with running a country. Sure, he is full of fantastic and appealing promises about taking away the riches possessed by the whites and handing them over to the poor and oppressed blacks. His rhetoric appeals to millions but so few actually realize the consequences, so few can even begin to imagine the pain and suffering his leadership will cause. I am all for helping the suffering and oppressed but do not see any future at all under the leadership of Malema. In fact his leadership will have have a bad effect not just upon the oppressed but the whole nation.
