AS Zanu-PF’s 14 th Annual National People’s Conference comes to life in Chinhoyi tomorrow, political analysts and ordinary Zimbabweans have urged the revolutionary party to come up with practical resolutions that will see it fulfil its election promises. They said it was imperative that the party deals with the issue of factionalism and succession politics that have diverted it from implementing the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset).

Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa, said the party’s politburo was expected to meet in Harare today while the Central Committee would converge in Chinhoyi tomorrow.

“Zanu-PF needs to strengthen the unity of purpose that saw it resoundingly winning the July 31 harmonised elections,” said political commentator Mr Godwine Mureriwa.

“Some people (within the party) have been pursuing selfish interests and succession. The party has to look at the bigger picture and start delivering on the election promises.

“The party has to come up with pragmatic strategies to implement Zim Asset. Time for political sloganeering and political rhetoric is over.

We now have to look at issues affecting the youths especially around employment creation through resuscitating industries and supporting farmers.

“In doing so, Zanu-PF will emerge stronger. The conference must be frank.”

Midlands State University lecturer Mr Christopher Gwatidzo, said the revolutionary party must pre-occupy itself with implementing its manifesto that saw it winning the elections.

“Zanu-PF won the elections on the basis of what it promised people. Now that we have Zim Asset, the party needs to ensure that it commits itself to policies like indigenisation and economic empowerment. There is a need for consolidation and growth of the economy within the framework of indigenisation. The party needs to ensure that youths who are the majority understand what the party has achieved.

“Therefore, the party has to challenge them to fight the new war which is change of the mindset. Our leaders have played their part. The onus is now on the born-free to guard the sovereignty of the country jealously,” said Mr Gwatidzo.

Other ordinary Zimbabweans said they wanted a corrupt-free country that promoted indigenisation.

Mr Douglas Chinhamo of Harare said the conference must come up with a resolution that abhorred corruption where culprits must be prosecuted without fear or favour.

Ms Charleen Mutema of Budiriro, said it was important for Zanu-PF to concentrate on fulfilling its election manifesto.

“The reason people voted for Zanu-PF is because they wanted it to implement its policies. Therefore, the conference must concentrate on findings mechanisms of implementing those promises like indigenising the economy. It is disturbing that after the elections, there seem to be silence on indigenisation. The Community Trusts are said not to be active. It is therefore important that the party comes up with a practical resolution with regards to indigenisation,” she said.

Ms Lucia added: “Government policies are usually informed by party policies. We therefore expect Zanu-PF to come up with policies that will see the country’s economy improving. “We want to see the zeal about indigenisation that they had before the elections coming back.

But they must do it in an orderly manner so that we don’t disturb the economy.”

“But they must do it in an orderly manner so that we don’t disturb the economy”- Too late, they’ve already disturbed the economy.

The govt should just give the farmers title deeds and those who want to sell can sell to those willing to sell. By giving value to land it is possible to raise more than $ 5 Billion in the next 5 to 10 years. However once raised our sad government will not know how to properly utilise those funds. We do not need the IMF to give us money. Our government still thinks money is the paper its printed on. Money is created through giving objects and services a value (demand).
