Zanu PF factional infighting turns ugly

ZANU PF factional infighting has turned ugly, with insiders reporting assassination plots and an upsurge in threats.

The Daily News said in Mashonaland Central party officials are engaged in ‘open warfare’ and battles for dominance are spilling over into gold mines, amid allegations of love scandals involving senior party members.

The infighting is said to be between the traditional rival factions controlled by vice President Joice Mujuru and Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa. Both Mujuru and Mnangagwa are said to want to succeed ailing President Robert Mugabe who turned 90 this year.

An unnamed Youth League executive member from the Mnangagwa faction said the Mujuru camp has compiled a hit list of those who should be either eliminated or jailed ahead of the party’s elective congress scheduled for December. Gold panners operating in the province have been arrested in recent weeks, and ascribed their fate to their opposition to Mujuru.

SW Radio Africa correspondent Simon Muchemwa said the reports are not surprising because individuals within both factions have, over the years, amassed extreme wealth which they want to secure through political leverage. Muchemwa said the infighting was not limited to one province.

He said: ‘There is a sense that everyone within the party is anticipating radical changes within the party structures. Others are now saying Mugabe has indicated privately to some quarters that he wants to retire and so this seems to have triggered this warfare.’

Muchemwa said in some provinces state security agencies such as the army and the CIO were also being used in the fight for control and power.

My fellow Zimbabweans, we should not wait for ZANU PF’s implosion for us to take control of our future. This is what will happen when Mugabe dies, soon, a lot of innocent people are going to be sacrificed, but we can cushion ourselves from untold agony by refusing to be used. If we do that we will be able to minimize the inevitable suffering. We have no choice but to unite if we expect to rid ourselves of this ZANU PF monster, and exorcise ourselves of the curse. Anything short will doom us to never ending suffering. Please hear and act. Refuse to be used. Don’t abuse and violate your fellow suffering brothers and sisters for the benefit of these very corrupt politicians.

There is nothing new in this “story”, with wild unsubstantiated claims about assassination plots, love scandals, etc. I fail to see the link between factional fighting, love scandals and gold mines which are all mixed up in the story. Everyone knows there is factional fighting in ZANU PF, but this “story” matuzvi chaiyo.

I think Mrs Mujuru and Mr Mnangagwa have a duty to dissuade their factions from engaging in violent activies.h

What can that old woman possibly bring for a change to our country? I say let them burn each other beyond recognition as happened to Mujuru Rex. This woman was calmed when her husband died by being promised to rule after the oldman is gone. Now she sees it ain’t happening, hence all this noise. She was sold a dummy by Mugabe and she lost her husband in the process. Sorry manhingi!
