Zanu-PF says no to MDC’s call for dialogue

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zanu-PF party has rejected opposition Movement for Democratic Change’s call for dialogue between the two parties to help rescue the country’s ailing economy.

According to newzimbabwe.com, MDC’s secretary general and shadow finance minister Tendai Biti told reporters in Harare that his party was open to dialogue over forming another coalition administration.

The MDC worked with Zanu-PF in a unity government following the violent 2008 elections. The coalition which ended after Zanu-PF won the 31 July disputed elections was credited for easing a collapsing economy.

Zanu-PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo, however,  said the MDC was welcome to help set the country’s struggling economy, but only “from the opposition benches in Parliament”.

Gumbo conceded that the economic situation looked “dire” but said the framework was in place for a turnaround that would necessarily take some time, said the report.

Despite Mugabe’s lofty pre-election promises, six months into his new tenure, alarm bells are ringing in every corner, with beleaguered Zimbabweans bracing for a renewed and economic financial crisis.

As reports say, companies are laying off around 300 people every week and the promised one million new jobs remain a dream.

Biti, who is also a former finance minister, said it was clear that “Zanu-PF is directionless, and clueless and there has to be dialogue in this country”.

I agree with you Johnson. Surely you would expect them to be ‘once bitten, twice shy’. It would be better for MDC to wait until ZANU PF begs them, but it defies logic that MDC is trying to initiate something, from such a compromised position. You would think that they would stick to what they said when ZANU ‘won’ the elections in July ’13. When are these guys going to stick to their principals!

@Jonston -ZANU PF is already facing a ludicrous situation ,they really in danger of facing an uprising , i respect your words , MDC T must be careful about their call , ZANU PF is failing and this will never turn back as they will continue failing , let them suffer on their own until well proved by the entire people of Zimbabwe , ZANU PF should continuing failing on its own without any means of scapegoating , MDC T people must distance themselves from this , they must not shoot themselves.

Tendai Biti’s views are correct, but he must remember that its the ballot box that matters most. I hope he is busy in the drawing to see to it that 2018 sees free and fair elections. Mdc has been robbed everytime in the elections. Do you (mdc) go to the drawing board after each loss. If you foresee rigging cry foul before elections. You true opinions will change very little or nothing. The drawing board will change everything. Keep talking though.

After what has happened during the GNU why would the MDC want to go this route with people that won’t allow them to perform if this arrangement came to pass. Why also do this when you say the Elections were rigged. The MDC needs improve it’s strategies. Why try to save a snake that is biting it’s self? Zanu must be left to it’s own devices. They are fighting amongst each other and informing on each other.

Dialogue on what items of agenda? So this B(r)iti(sh) believes that it is only the MDC that has a solution to Zim challenges. He wishes he was still in Govt. Power is sweet I see now.

The poor poor British ….. everything is blamed on them…they authorized Cuthbert’s salery …Tney authorized the ZBC Chefs astronomical wages… they caused the draught’s that have ravaged the country…they are now causing floods…This is foolish that some people are so blind that they do not see that the cause of Zimbabwe’s problems lie with Zanu pf and Zanu pf only. They failed to manage the wages, the failed to manage the draughts and because they do not have disaster strategies. I hope and pray these floods subside without too much distruction.

Zimbabweans are cowards! The majority of them all allude to the fact that Zanu PF does not represent the wishes of the vast majority of Zimbabweans’ aspirations and they do nothing about it! They are all fully aware of the fact that Zanu PF cannot be unseated via constitutional means and they do nothing about it!
Freedom, poor Zimbabweans, does not come on a silver plate, Painful and even deadly sacrifices must be undertaken. You are blaming everybody else for your suffering but your selves! SADC, AU,UN and everybody else that you are pointing fingers at have no right to come into Zimbabwe and install your preferred Government. The power is in your hands to do so and you know it but you are so scared of Zanu PF to the extent that you will not even lift a finger to eventually achieve that goal!
Running away from your country and seeking asylum status all over Africa will not bring you Freedom! Speaking in hushed voices in all the wrong places will not bring you anything! Advising, analysing,(no matter how accurate the analysis)and even criticizing Mugabe will only bring sorrow unto you and yours! So please spare us the mewing and phewing and do something or forever be at peace with your situation!

MDC-T is financially dead therefore these top officials know this and have no plan B to bail itself out.Just wait and see what they will do next. I am sorry that they were lured to GNU and then got hammered politically and financially.
The other party concentrated in destroying the opposition in such a way that they failed to monitor looters within themselves,as witnessed by the recent revelations.More revelations are to surface in the near future. Watch and see.
