via Zim Lobbying AU to Take Action on EU Moves to Silence Mugabe by Blessing Zulu 29.01.2014 VOAZimbabwe
Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi says Zimbabwe is lobbying the African Union to take a firm position against the European Union (EU) which is allegedly trying to block President Robert Mugabe from attending an Africa-EU summit in Belgium in April.
Mr. Mugabe and his inner circle are under targeted sanctions by the EU for alleged human rights abuses. But Mr. Mugabe has dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
Mumbengegwi told Xinhua that Harare wants the AU executive council to stand with Zimbabwe.
A similar meeting was delayed for 7 years until 2007 after African Nations sided with Mr. Mugabe. The meeting was held in Portugal but premiers of Britain and the Czech Republic boycotted. Washington also snubbed Harare in its August US-Africa summit.
But Harare dismissed the summit as a non-event.
EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe Aldo Dell Arricia said Zimbabwe’s actions are premature as the EU is set to review sanctions next month.
International Relations expert Clifford Mashiri, who once worked at the Zimbabwe Embassy in Ethiopia said Zimbabwe is trying to test the waters ahead of the sanctions review.

What is he actualy intrested in,he has before said they can go and hang ,what has changed ,NO VOTERS ROLL, NO DIASPORA VOTE ,NO DUAL CITZENSHIP ,after all eu was denied observing the rigged elections.
@ Jobolinko give me ten good reasons why you need to vote when you are a diaspora? Why do you need to change or choose the government when the situation n Zimbabwe does not affect you at all?
It simply does not make any sense at all!
Disgrace must like Belgium chocolate. I’d prefer to see TIM at the Hague to answer for his crimes against humanity.
Sanctions should be tightened to include managers of parastatals they are the conduits for stolen loot.
the EU, should, show, their sensertive, feelings. its time we leave in the presant not in the past. i think and hope he (mr PRESIDENT)BE ALLOWED, to attand the meetting in BELGIUM.
WELL, he’s the head of the state(zimbabwe), isolation of him affects the whole country, which results in innocent, poor, woman and children to sufer the most. the results its lond term problem for the EU, having more REFUGEES,ECONOMIC MIGRANT, e.t.c.
so, let address ,lets confront our issues(demons), while we can.
thank you.
Shoko are you serious or just one of Mugabe’s bootlickers. We have been suffering long before sanctions were effected. Then again just what can the AU do about the restrictions placed on the ZPF leadership? Nothing – like with so many other ‘challenges’ on the continent.
Mugabe wants to go and sleep again in the comfort of that conference. Achabudisa mweya muneimwe conference akarara kana kurotomoka achiti nikuv-nikuv-sanctions-sanctions…
Shoko…go back to school!
