Thousands of Zimbabwean flood victims displaced after torrential rains caused the partial collapse of the Tokwe-Mukosi dam in Masvingo are reportedly faced with starvation.

The Daily News said statistics released by government’s civil protection unit showed the families required 150 000 tons of grains, amid reports of shortages.

Reports say over 4 000 people were evacuated from the flood risk area after torrential rains caused the partial collapse of the Tokwe-Mukori dam in the Masvingo area.

Villagers, who relocated to Chingwizi camp in Nuanetsi Ranch, said they were starving as government food donations were not enough to meet the demand.

They said they also feared an outbreak of diseases due to lack of proper amenities.

The situation has resulted in government roping in local companies and non-governmental organisations for donations and food assistance, the report said.

What a mess. No disaster fund. Poor housekeeping by Zanu.

Its sad we have a president who feels 9 and would rather squander a million dollars on a birthday party. That money could have gone a long way in easing the suffering of the flood victims. In stead, we are now expecting the west to step in and ease the people’s suffering.
