INFORMATION, Media and Broadcasting Services minister Jonathan Moyo yesterday said government was willing to compensate white farmers who were displaced during the land reform programme in 2000, but currently had no money for such an exercise.
According to officials, Moyo said to Danish ambassador to Zimbabwe Erik Brogger Rasmussen at his Munhumutapa Building offices that government was willing to offer compensation for immovable properties.
“Minister Moyo told the Danish ambassador that Zimbabwe was willing to compensate white farmers on immovable properties if Denmark can mediate the deal with other Western countries to fund the exercise through developmental organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme,” the official, who attended the meeting, said.
Denmark, a long-time ally of Zimbabwe, broke ranks with the country in 2002 over the land reform programme.
The Nordic country only resumed diplomatic relations with Zimbabwe last year.
“Minister Moyo told the Danish envoy that he was disappointed that Denmark decided to side with the other European countries over the land issue when the country hoped that it would intermediate to end the rift due to the close ties between the two nations,” the official added.
The official said Moyo told the envoy that he hoped Denmark would become an honest broker and persuade the other countries that do not want to be seen as directly interacting with Zimbabwe to use the developmental agencies to raise money to compensate the white farmers and support agriculture.
Addressing the media after his meeting with Moyo, Rasmussen only said his country was willing to re-engage with Zimbabwe.

Tried that in Cape Town you remember? Government covered their sorry asses by paying up – BUT that meant that they admitted they were wrong. Flog off a few diamonds why dontcha and re-direct the earnings to the farmers. But why only moveable assets? What about all the equipment, personal belongings etc. that were also stolen? Oh, silly me, I must ask the so-called “bigwig” for the moneys for that – and also for the crop in the ground that was reaped and sold.
First we had Mutsvangwa appealing to France to mediate with British. Now Moyo asks the Danish to mediate with other EU countries. Yesterday it was ‘ Look East’ and ‘the West can go to hell.’
It is disconcerting to belong to the same species, let alone the same country as some of these characters. I doubt they still remember who they once were or how they started.

Remember the first white farmer to be murdered during the initial farm invasions, David Stevens. He was married to a Danish girl who was lucky to escape with her life. That is why, Moyo, you imbecile, the Danish Government did not and does not support murder and the theft of other people’s land and property.
By chance I was in a Conference in Copenhagen when the news came through that a Danish owned farm in Zimbabwe had been invaded. During the coffee break I listened to the shock and horror that this news caused and had a quiet chuckle. As I was representing the UK Department of Trade at the conference I had to keep my mouth shut.
so if they admit there should be compensation but want someone else to pay for it let the donors and farmers negotiate without govt. interference…

Why should the white farmer be compensated they were part of the problem for not sharing the excessive land they had at their disposal. The white farmers should be given some of the land back for “utilisation” but monetary compensation is out of the question. But, Moyo is still playing the old tune, WE WILL ONLY PAY FOR THE IMPROVEMENTS and not the land, just, he now acts educated and calls it immovable assets.
The CFU have a deal (which is also not acceptable) to pay us in a broke governments bonds.
The reality is we have won our cases in the Hague, US, Sadcc and South African courts / tribunals and in every case the award is for full compensation. The problem is it has now got too big a payout owing to the interest charges levied and unaffordable to the country or any multitude of donors.
The solution is to give the farms back.
The advantages will be the restoration of property values, national wealth, employment creation, surplus food exports and an economy.
To achieve this we firstly need our president to mean what he says and respect the right to own property by all. We will also need the international community ( where the Danes can help) to offer a rescue package that will compensate the former farmers – white and black – for losses and damaged incurred in this disastrous land grab exercise. This will give the capital needed to get these farms working again. It does not have to be much – US$1 million each farmer ( Not farm ). Much cheaper than the euro720 000 awarded with 10% interest compounded every 6 months since 2003.
The CFU are no longer the body representing the farmers as they are only representing the farmers still paying subs. They have ignored those who have been forced to leave the country.

Dont fall into this well used ZANU ploy to raise funds. They will spend the money on their other shortfalls like Salaries and once again the Farmers will get nothing. I suggest if they want to compensate the Farmers it is dont directly from Doner to Farmer and not anywhere near sticky ZANU hands
