Zimbabweans are being urged to name and shame any officials involved in corrupt activities, including police officers and government ministers, in an effort to end the worsening corruption problem in the country.
The Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa (ACT-Southern Africa) said this week that public outcry over corruption in Zimbabwe needs to grow for there to be any real action.
The group is collecting signatures from Zimbabweans across the world who are being called on to join calls for Robert Mugabe and the ZANU PF administration to tackle corruption head on.
ACT-Southern Africa’s Alouis Munyaradzi Chaumba told SW Radio Africa that corruption is “totally endemic and it needs political will to sort it out.”
“It seems that every state department or unit is trying to make a killing from Zimbabweans by hook or by crook. The economic situation is dire, and people who are making an honest living are finding it hard, because they are always being pounced on,” Chaumba said.
He deplored the latest scam involving police officers at roadblocks, who have roped in kombi drivers, airtime vendors and newspaper vendors to keep bribe money safe from discovery by their superiors.
According to the NewsDay newspaper, “officers manning roadblocks in and around Harare have also roped in airtime and newspaper vendors operating within their vicinity to keep safe money clandestinely collected from errant kombi crews in case their bosses pounce on them.”
In separate interviews, kombi drivers confirmed to NewsDay that some of them had found “employment” with the police for keeping their money in return for being allowed to pass freely at roadblocks.
“There are drivers who work with the police and they benefit a lot from keeping the money police get from motorists. If you watch closely at roadblocks, there is always a kombi parked nearby as if the police are dealing with the driver yet the driver will be waiting to receive money for safekeeping,” one of the drivers said.
“These days, you don’t give cash directly to the policemen. They tell you to go and give it to the kombi driver or conductor parked nearby and they record who would have received what, then reconcile after work and share.”
ACT-Southern Africa’s Chaumba said the actions of the police “leave a lot to be desired,” but he emphasised that the problems will persist until there is a complete change in how such activities are dealt with.
“The problem is that the authorities are very good at lip service and want to hoodwink people when they say they are dealing with corruption. The best strategy is to name and shame people involved until the government is forced into actual action,” Chaumba said.

It is a noble idea to name and shame, but unfortunately there is no effective Channels for that. The only open source is the net, everything else Zanu will pounce on it. I think if we could have a website dedicated to fishing out these corrupt officials ,it would be magnificent.
As a person who has complained of corruption particularly in Zesa and seen the results in the press recently I have to say action does get taken
I tried during the inclusive government with no success, it now emerges that the minister was having an affair with the director who was bypassing tender procedures and organizing kickbacks of up to 40 million at a time.
Of course we must critise the new government for dissolving corrupt boards formed by the inclusive government or we will not earn our corrupt propaganda payment.
Either you are against corruption or not and if you are you must support efforts so far, never seen during the inclusive government.

What has the corruption in Zimbabwe have to do with the inclusive government? We know that the economy improved during the tenure of that govt although ZANU continued to dominate, control and loot parastatals. What happened to the ministers who were reported to the president by South African former president Mbeki? The president went ballistic about the report at the 2012 Gweru ZanuPF conference, but that was the last we heard. Zimbabweans are still waiting to see the reported minister (s) punished/booted out for the corruption reported.What happened to the search warrants that Zim Anti Corruption Commission got to searh some minister’s offices? Did the commissioners themselves get arrested instead? We must disband this commission for a lack of interest in it by the government!!!!
apolitical is a VERY incompetent CIO operative who spends time on the internet saying NOTHING of substance. I won’t be surprised if he/she works for foregn affairs, they have nothing to do except spend time on the net while waiting for salaries that never come on time, shame!!!
When the lion has no teeth or claws, all he can do is make noises. Having this commission at this time, under these circumstances, is nothing but a dog and pony show to try to claim legitimacy for the government. Same mentality that put Zim through a sham of a harmonized election so it could claim democracy. Just another case of the adolescent-minded, but evil, ZANUPF thinking they’re fooling somebody.

And then what? There are cases of these bigwigs being sued for theft of property and various other crimes against the people. We all know who they are. What does the Judge say? “This is not an urgent case.” And then try to putaway forever. But, those cases are still lodged. Trust me, their day will come.

I am naming George Charamba for stealing with Cuthbert and gang. Why is nothing being done to that lot. It seems this issue is slowly going under the carpet. We all know Mugabe protects and oves the corrupt since he is one of them.
I say let there be a website…like thecorruptfolksofzimbabwe.com . It should have an easy interface were one can upload his/her story and evidence against an corrupt official/government department, an area to upload both pictures and videos and if possible state where and when the corruption was done. Imagine seeing a recording of a policeman soliciting for a bribe/ police beating someone in prison, etc.

A corrupt government cannot deal with corruption. A thief brings a curse upon his own house. The father of all lies is the devil. No repentance! No restoration!
We, Zimbabweans must not let the corruption issue die a natural death or leave it to boil down but like ‘ngozi’ let it haunt the culprits for ever. To end corruption we need to ‘gukurahundi’ all ZANU PF crooks and damp them in political oblivion for good.
Have these people not been named enough times and each time nothing is done.Bob spends his energy defending them. Every crook or Mafia boss is in government. Bob shouts like an empty vessel against corruption at every opportunity but does zilch in reality.

Hopefully those on this forum will keep this alive ,but I do hope the man in the street without internet keep this alive as well. You can already see by one on this forum talking about the coruption during the inclusive Goverment. That again would be a seriuos mistake if they tried to look into that senario because it was thier members that were the cheif culprits during that time. The contrbutee will most proberbly told to shut up by his handers. Jack the Rabbit was right. He does not make sense with his rumbling. Gukurahundis have no shame by nature, even if you publicly named them. Normal people would have been embarrassed and sought redress for their gukurahundism and the annihilation of 20 000 innocent Mthwakazi villagers in the 1980s.
Being annihilated for not being Shona; not speaking Shona and being pregnant with dissident foetuses.
They have on numerous occasions been publicly named:
– Emmerson Gukurahundi Mnangagwa;
– Robert Gukurahundi Mugabe;
– Sidney Gukurahundi Sekeramayi;
– Perence Gukurahundi Shiri;
– late Enos Gukurahundi Nkala; and
– late Mark Gukurahundi Dube.
Despite this public naming, nothing shames them. They have shown no remorse. They even went further and committed more gukurahundism on Zim citizens post 1990.
This time around, their gukurahundi tentacles spread to every corner; every nook and cranny of Zimbabwe’s geography and society and even beyond its borders!!!
As was stated long ago, evidence of violence and corruption needs to be compiled and safeguarded… date, time, victim(s), circumstances, collaborators, witnesses, everything… all evidence to convict in a legitimate justice system… which will someday return to Zim.
Certainly, the disgusting violence of 2008 fits “crimes against humanity” charges, but with the current dire economic circumstances in Zim, with the people starving for food, and not able to afford soap, and the infrastructure in tatters, and the politicizing of aid and farm inputs, the ZANUPF raiding of government coffers and paristals for personal benefits qualifies, as well.
Collect the information, and keep it protected… not to shame (they have no conscience to tweak), but to seek justice, convict, and recover the people’s due.
Do it now… for the children’s sake..!
