ZMDC ‘doing nothing’: Mugabe

via ZMDC ‘doing nothing’: Mugabe 14/12/2013 NewZimbabwe

PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe Friday ordered a clean-up at the State-owned Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) which he says is “doing nothing.”

Addressing members during Zanu PF’s annual conference in Chinhoyi, Mugabe said there is need to ensure greater transparency in the company’s operations.

“We shall be looking at the possibilities of rationalising the mining of diamonds,” he said.

“We would also want greater transparency then. Our own arm mind you in all these companies we have ZMDC … ZMDC is doing nothing.”

He added: “We have said ZMDC can establish your own mines, organise our people, the ones we train, the ones with experience get them to do mining as Zimbabweans without foreigners without having to export anything. So we will have to shake up the ZMDC.”

The ZMDC holds shares on behalf of government in Mbada diamonds, Ajin and the Diamond mining cooperation.

Mugabe said there is need for value addition of the minerals.

“We should not continue to send our minerals out in their raw form,” Mugabe said.

On Wednesday diamond players said the country has a potential to earn over US$6, 5 billion if all the germs are beneficiated.

Last year, the country produced 12 million carats of rough diamonds valued at $644 million but failed to generate significant revenue or create jobs as almost all the diamonds were exported in their rough state.

“Addressing members during Zanu PF’s annual conference in Chinhoyi, Mugabe said there is need to ensure greater transparency in the company’s operations” There is need to ensure greater transparency now that MDC T is out the way. Surely the Mpofus of this world made millions and one man who Zimbabweans shall remember for ever is Biti who has been calling for the more greater transparency but because he is from opposition noone cared to listen including his Excellence who seems to be now in agreement. It is now too late. This is reactive management. His excellence the horse has already bolted.

Zimbabwe used to have a school of mines funded and run by the multinational mining companies in Zimbabwe to produce the next generation of mining engineers. I closed because the vast majority of suitably qualified school leavers were already HIV positive.

harper if it used that as a reason then it was a very lame excuse because some are leaving to the ripe age of retirement with the desease so he can still be an engineer and HIV+ and still provide. HIV+ zvafanana ne flue.

If Mugabe was serious about all this he should not have recycled the ministers where chaos are being unearthed, he should fire Chombo for the housing scandals, Mpofu for the non-transparency in the mines sector, Shamu for the ZBC scandal, why keep them in kuti varambe vachingoita mess and telling us the same story everyday.

Sounds like the senile old fool is frustrated as he now knows he has nothing to provide, only hot air. It is typical of this type of person who will blame all around him for his own failings. Why anyone would elect a president with severe mental health problems is beyond me.

maita, sharing a cell block with me in Chikurubi were 36 hiv positive youngsters rejected from teacher training in Cuba. Mugabe denied their existence and fired the editor of the Sunday paper for mentioning them. Even their parents did not know that they had been returned to Zimbabwe. The Cubans first dumped them in Angola but when Zimbabwe failed to fetch them, flew them on and dumped them at New Sarum and then they were hidden away in F Hall Chikurubi. Show me one that’s alive today and I will be very happy as they were good cell mates. Some died there but the rest were eventually moved to detention in Marondera to die in secret.
