Four of the 28 government staff houses commissioned by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Beitbridge on Wednesday suffered roof damage during a storm just hours after the official ceremony.
Strong winds blew zinc roofing sheets from a nearby house onto the four properties, causing damage to the asbestos roofing.
The incident took place at around 3 PM after Mnangagwa had left for a ZANU PF rally at Dulivhadzimo Stadium.
Zinc roofing sheets from the neighbour’s house, identified only as Ndou, could be seen lying near the new houses commissioned by Mnangagwa just a few hours earlier.
Faith Tamirepi, a tenant at Ndou’s house, told ZimLive:
The roof was partially blown off during a storm and our property was soaked.
We picked some of the roofing sheets at those new houses and we’re just waiting for the owner of the house.

She said no one was injured.
President Mnangagwa commissioned the 28 new houses which are part of 52 built so far to accommodate government workers in the border town – Zimbabwe’s gateway to South Africa.
There was a building firm based in Beit Bridge that built to a high standard. It was destroyed by ZANU by arresting its owners and falsely accusing them of spying for SA. Botswana is very grateful for the translocated talent.
It does appear ZanuPF destroyed many a firm for its own to have. Today there is no employment, why? No sustained growth etc etc. In other words, NO PLAN .
Where in this world is asbestos still used for any purpose, especially roofing?
Nowhere.
Its serious danger to health is well documented. Even a small child can find that out by going on to Google.
So, will there ever be an end to ZANU PF’s stupidity and greed?
I hear that in South Africa their ANC has been making moves to replace existing asbestos roofs with something safer.
However, their whole plan was spoiled by a very senior member of their party and his friends being paid millions and millions for counting the roofs that needs changing … and not replacing them!
Almost sounds something like a ZANU PF project.
From the photograph the roofing would appear to be the thinnest grade of galvanised corrugated iron and not asbestos. Such thin grade material is not suitable for such large expanses of roofing. It would appear that the asbestos is the result of sloppy reporting.
