FIRST Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa will visit Bulilima District next week accompanied by a team of doctors under her Angel of Hope Foundation who will provide villagers free medical services for a week, a Cabinet minister has said.

Minister of State in the Office of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Eveline Ndlovu revealed this at Malalume Clinic in Plumtree on Saturday.

“The health sector is a strategic sector to government and the country as a whole. A healthy people is a healthy nation. The First Lady is coming in the next week to camp here for a week with her team of doctors who will be giving free medical services to villagers… She’s a caring mother,” Ndlovu said.

She said Mnangagwa was championing the fight against cervical cancer and also raising awareness about reproductive health in girls.

Ndlovu said she was also donating sanitary pads to girls in primary schools in Bulilima and Mangwe districts through a programme expected to run until 2023.

“In that vein I have decided to launch a programme to buy sanitary pads for all primary schools in Bulilima and Mangwe districts. I will be buying them from my salary every month for the next five years. Women you selected me to be your representative so I should also do something for girls who are mothers of tomorrow. I have already donated to other schools,” she said.

She urged school authorities to counsel girls and urge them to desist from indulging in premarital sex to reduce teenage pregnancies.

Ndlovu also urged women to go for cervical cancer screening.

“Men too are also prone to prostate cancer and they should also seek medical services early,” Ndlovu said.
