Electoral Court orders arrest of Tsvangirai lawyers

via BREAKING NEWS: Electoral Court orders arrest of Tsvangirai lawyers | The Herald Herald Reporter

Justice Chinembiri Bhunu has ordered the arrest of lawyers representing Mr Morgan Tsvangirai after the Electoral Court dismissed the MDC-T leader’s application which sought to compel the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to release of election material used in the 2013 harmonised election.

The arrests will be for the “averments” made by the MDC-T leader against the judiciary.

Mr Tsvangirai was represented by Advocate Lewis Uriri as lead counsel and Mr Chris Mhike of Atherstone and Cook was the instructing attorney.

The MDC-T was reported to have said Zimbabwe’s judiciary was an appendage of Zanu-PF and hence his efforts to quash the victory of President Mugabe would, in his view, hit a brickwall.

Zimbabwe’s judiciary was (IS) an appendage of Zanu-PF. FACT, NOT FICTION. Therefore arrest Justice (joke) Chinembiri Bhunu.

The judges in Zimbabwe are just as petulant and thin skinned as Mugabe.

@Knowthetruth, I think it’s not a question of using other poor judiciary systems in Africa as a benchmark and think we are better off. We should thrive to do the best in a transparent way, and so comparison is misplaced here. The question is are we performimg over the top in all fairness. Some of this calls for common sense yet it’s not at all that common as common sense has become a rare commodity among the judiciary system in Zim.

I am tired of people looking at other countries and justifying our situation as good because those other countries are worse than us. Lets have set stardards as benchmarks not conditions in other African countries. Better than worse is not necessarily good

Late Chief Tangwena when asked about what to do with Ian Smith he said “faka gamatocs” I feel the same should be meted on Mugabe and all ZANU PF appendages and apologetics.

What does the law say? Are attorneys allowed to criticize judges? If yes, then this Bhunu dude is abusing his powers.

It should be noted that lawyers are also officers of the same court they’re criticizing. I have a feeling that these lawyers will end up being censored by the their peers. Just saying…I am not a lawyer, just using common sense.

    • comment-avatar

Common sense does not exist in Zimbabwe. It is an illegal mode of thought!

  • comment-avatar

and then we say there is rule of law in Zimbabwe when the highest court in the country do such actions…

This is a clear case of a judiciary system that has literally gone to the dogs. Do chidyausiku and bhunu have any sense of shame and embarrassment? If they do have, then they will hang their heads in shame each time they move in the streets of hre. The court system has been reduced to a circus. For the first time in my life i feel ashamed of being a zimbabwean. Above all, i feel ashamed of being a blackman. With this kind of mentality displayed by our so-called judges , sadc, and au, africa will forever remain the historical dark continent.

Chidyausiku, as a high court judge, criticized the then chief justice, Gubby, and he was rewarded by being made the chief justice. I do not remember anyone ordering his arrest, Talk of hypocrisy!

Why order the arrest of the lawyers for utterances attributed to the MDC-T? In any case, it’s not as if those utterances are false, who doesn’t know that those judges are infact, Zanu PF judges?

As if stealing elections was not enough, now the dogs are rigging the law! What else is now left to rig?

Lots of people have short memories, do you remember what catapulted Chidyausiku to the Chief Justice position? “Criticizing the then Chief Justice Gubby when he, Chidyausika was a mere high court judge”. There is no question that most of judges in Zim today are there to serve the interest of ZANU and Mugabe. They are told of what outcome they should give in cases involving Mugabe and ZANU. The issue here is: Do they have conscience, integrity, and most importantly value themselves as people who can make a difference in the lives of 13 plus million Zimbabweans? Do they sleep at night after sacrificing 13 plus million people to safeguard the interest of a clique?
