GOVERNMENT is inviting tenders for the dualisation of the Harare-Gweru highway and the construction of Madacheche road in Murehwa, together with toll gates in Shamva and Esigodini under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme 2 (ERRP2).
President Mnangagwa’s Government took over the rehabilitation of all roads nationwide as the Second Republic navigates towards the envisaged Vision 2030, guided by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which has a bias towards infrastructure development.
The tender was flighted by the secretary for Transport and Infrastructure Development, Engineer Amos Marawa on September 19.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe is inviting prospective registered bidders to participate in the following tenders. Lot 1 Construction on Murehwa –Madacheche Road, Lot 2 Harare- Gweru dualisation, Design and Construction of Toll Plaza Lot 1 Shamva and Lot 2 Esigodini,” read part of the tender.
He said the tenders must be enclosed in a sealed envelope and endorsed on the outside with the correct reference number and must be hand delivered at the Ministry’s offices.
In February, President Mnangagwa launched the ERRP2 targeting to rehabilitate at least 26 000km across the country by year end.
Most of the country’s roads have outlived their lifespan and the heavy rains that were received during the 2020/21 rainy season worsened their condition.
Government is committed to rehabilitating the road network as infrastructural development is key to attaining an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
An ERRP2 report shows that 50 percent of work has been done across the country so far as road authorities have gravelled 70 percent of the targeted 16 284km network, and 70 percent of 556km drainage structure repairs and construction.
The report also shows that by the end of August, Zinara had disbursed $4,7 billion to road authorities such as the Department of Roads, which received $1,4 billion, the District Development Fund (DDF), which received $1,7 billion, with urban local authorities receiving more than $855 million and rural local authorities receiving $744 million.
COMMENTS
Simply review the whole plan put in place by whoever is the minister in charge of roads or town planning. You never hear from these ghosts . Allocate monies, obviously these must be properly audited, to fix urban roads and roads outside the urban areas. Employ people who will do these jobs . Something so simple made hard by thieves in charge.
