How much is your president worth?

via How much is your president worth? – DailyNews Live by Bill Saidi  21 MARCH 2014

After the death of many young people looking for jobs in Nigeria last week, the people of that country must have asked the 64-million naira question: how much is our president worth in terms of performance?

The  same  question could also be asked of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who only recently said he deserved a hefty boost in pay.

Mugabe has been in power longer than Nigeria’s Goodluck Jonathan. He does not have to contend with the equivalent of the Boko Haram Muslim terrorists killing men, women and children in its avowed campaign to turn the country into a Muslim state.

A bloody campaign in Zimbabwe after independence in 1980 featured “the dissidents”, or “bandits” of Matabeleland.

More than 20 000 people, most of them of the Ndebele ethnic group, were killed in that period.

Mugabe described that massacre as “a moment of madness”, never once singling out his own Five Brigade soldiers as the major players. He had also promised “compensation” of sorts for the relatives of the victims. But little has been heard from him or his lieutenants on how far that promise has gone into fruition.

Mugabe would be in power for 34 years on April 18. His supporters will, inevitably, point to the land reform programme as one of his sterling successes. Most of them, unfortunately, have no economics savvy to speak of.

Agriculture is in the doldrums today, in a country once touted as “the breadbasket of southern Africa”. Although the president holds a degree in economics, there are few people who could cite one example of how this knowledge has benefited the country.

There are no lists of economic success stories in Africa which include, among their top 10, Zimbabwe.

Goodluck Jonathan, presiding over the second strongest economy in Africa, has very little to show for his short tenure either.  A country which stirs up great controversy by firing the governor of its central bank, but ends up waffling terribly on the reason for that wacky decision, is probably blundering aimlessly in a thick forest of uncertainties.

The question of how much our African presidents are worth in terms of their performance has become relevant because of our poverty. The examples provided by South Africa and Nigeria are pathetic. There is poverty in both countries on a scandalous scale, when you juxtapose this with their obscene wealth in natural resources and the lifestyle of the fat cats, including the politicians.

Also to be considered in the same countries is the level of corruption. Both have billionaires who owe their wealth, mostly, to the bribing some of the highest-ranking politicians in the land. In South Africa, there are reports of politicians of the ruling party being appointed to the boards of directors of some of the biggest companies in the land. Their only qualification is their political clout.

It is always difficult to be balanced in the criticism of our leaders. Nigeria brings in the example of Goodluck Jonathan government’s decision to award an honour to Sani Abacha, the late dictator.

Abacha was among the ruthless leaders who ran Nigeria before its political stability in the 1990s, after independence in 1960.

The story is told of how corrupt and licentious Abacha was and how he is said to have died of Aids.

Transparency International publicly-questioned that decision. But Jonathan would not comment on the scandal. Is it any wonder there has been no winner for the number one African leader prize for years now?

MMMmmmm Good question, which I will recuse myself from answering, but amazingly God loves him, but hates his sin, but then that goes for all of us, God loves us all.

    @ Reverend.
Where is it written in scripture that God loves us all? and how did you get to know that God loves the man and not his sin? In Scripture it is clearly written that God hates workers of iniquity. He loves those who do his commandments. Please would you check whether your comments are in line with scripture.

      Hi jay c….here goes …..
I do believe God is a God of love, and you must remember that God does not send us to an eternal damnation, but our unforgiven sin and rejection of Gods Son Jesus Christ does. And yes Jesus said ” I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.” I do believe that this shows that there are those that follow other christs and the Word is clear on this.
John 3:16 of course ..For God so loved the World….does that exclude Mugabe?
Mathew 5:43. Jesus says..“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[i] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect…..
Do you believe God would expect us to do something He Himself is not doing? I look at Mugabe as my enemy, but I am called on by the Lord to Love him, and even pray for him, as hard as it is for me, I must confess.
Try 1 Corinthians 13, and in fact go to your concordance and look up the word “love” and it will overwhelm you.
Remember that as it says in Ephesians 2:8-10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
When Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary, did he say ” Lord forgive them all except Mugabe for they know not what they do”?
You must remember jay c that Romans 3:23 – 26 says
for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and ALL are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement,[i]through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
So me, you, the Pope, Mugabe are all are sinners and can only be saved by Gods grace, by acceptance of Christs Death and resurrection and atonement to sin.
Brother if God hates anyone we are in serious trouble!
I could go on all day about Gods love but I will leave it there…The Lord bless you Friend.

Whilst god is a god of love he cannot tolerate sin and whilst Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father there will be a terrible judgment on those who trample on the grace of God. It is called licentiousness. We cannot think we are saved and continue to live in sin where there is no fruit in keeping with repentance. There are many who will claim they did things for God but He will say away with you. I do not know you: you who practice lawless ness. The penalty for sin is death. No one can claim eternal life and live the sin I see in Zimbabwe.

I agree 100% that unrepentant, unfogiven sin is the wide road to destruction, eternal damnation and hell, and this is by your own choice. 1 Peter 3:9 says – The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance….
People must not assume salvation through a church or denomination, but should research the Word of God. James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
All this does not change the fact that the God of the Bible is a loving and forgiving God, and true forgiveness is not available without love…another bombshell?

Reverend, you should start a Religious Forum,
this is a political one, remember.

It matters not if God loves Mugabe, his goons or
        his dis-Graceful Jezebel wife.

What matters now, is to save the starving flood victims,
educate the discarded children, give the pensioners succor.

So long as this ‘Catholic’ monster is in power, these will fail!
That is the matter at hand, not God’s love.

        God bless you too!

Thanks Parangeta, You do not have to read our posts, and this is really an open forum, not only political. Though I agree with views about the failure of this outageous regime I must certainly disagree with you that Gods love power and intervention in our country dont matter. It really does matter, and if you have a Bible read 2nd Chronicles 7:14.

With all due respect to your comments,Reverend, I still will stand by what I said because in scripture, Psalms 5:5, it is written,”The foolish shall not stand in they sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity”. And all means all. Although you quote Romans 3: 23-26, we must be careful to see that God uses the past tense in the matter of sin. Why? .. Because we are born sinners. But those whom He has saved no longer live as sinners. and I quote Gospel according to 1 John: 8-9 as follows: ” He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:9, states “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin….” Therefore God has saved his people from their sins and will continue to do so. There is therefore no more condemnation for them. But those who commit sin are children of the devil and do you expect God to love His enemy’s offspring.? If you believe this, as you do, then Ha Satan is deceiving you.

OK jay c, if R G Mugabe fell to his knees and repented and gave his life to Christ with all his heart and soul, would God forgive him or not? If God hates him now is salvation no longer available to him and will he burn in hell for eternity regardless?
You see friend, it does not suit you to love your enemy as God commanded and I know it is easier to hate your enemy, because I have been there myself, but we have to realize that in John 3:16 the Lord said…For God SO loved the world that he gave His only Beloved Son that “WHOEVER” believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life…. Jesus said “WHOEVER” and I cannot judge against that scripture but you can try if you want.
I do believe that scales are on peoples eyes but when I look at myself and realize that in ‘your’ terms I was a person who God should hate and send to hell, BUT thank God he loved me and I asked him to come into my life and I stand today as a forgiven child of the Living God serving Him because He loved me FIRST.
It is so easy to hate people who do not abide by your own rules, But when you abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, He will give you a love beyond understanding and you will have no option but to love your enemy as God requires.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart soul mind and spirit, and love your neighbor as yourself…Lord who is my neighbor?…
Satan cannot “Ha?” deceive me because he cannot deal with Gods love and he is the god of hatred, evil and of this world going around like a roaring lion to see who he can devour.
It seems that by the way you write that you no longer sin. Well I am afraid I cannot boast of that as I do still sin, but I am not a child of the devil as I am able to come to the foot of the cross and know that I am saved by grace and my sins are forgiven because of Christs love, and yes,- through Christs atoning LOVE there is no condemnation. Bless you jay c.

In several places the bible lists the sins that people practice and will not inherit the kingdom of God. When a man is truly born again of the Spirit he begins to look and live and speak as an expression of Christ. Do we see that in the president and leaders of Zimbabwe. Something is very very wrong here. many go to church and believe me they are not born again and are in a dangerous place. very! Repentance is what is needed. Urgently!

No of course we definitely do not see the fruits of the Holy Spirit in the president and leaders of Zimbabwe. In fact we see the hand of evil, and surely they need to repent, but do they have the right to repent? Yes Brother, the very very wrong situation is the fact that we as a nation are being governed by a very evil regime led by Mugabe, and I’m afraid that this scenario is not just particular to our country but is world wide and as we get closer to end times I believe it will get worse. You mentioned the film about Fiji and I answered your post and told you I distribute the film where ever I can, and an amazing revelation of Gods power as the country came together and denominational walls were broken down as churches joined hands in unity and Gods love and the President of Fiji declaring publicly that the true leader of the country was Christ Jesus. Wow what a miracle, and what a hope and prayer for this country.Yes as you say repentance is needed urgently. Have you read the book “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn? Very interesting, about the decline of the USA…Cahn is converted Jew now Christian.

    @NBS.
Well said NBS. It cannot be assumed that when one claims to be a child of God, they are actually in the house of the Almighty. True repentance from sin will show in the actions of a man, even towards fellow human beings.
