The fate of the Information Minister behaving in a manner unacceptable to Zanu (PF) would be decided by the people, says party spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo.
The Politburo met last week and discussed Jonathan Moyo’s ‘anti-Zanu (PF) and divisive behaviour’, he said.
Though no names were mentioned, the Politburo and President Robert Mugabe recently expressed concern at a highly educated Information Minister who was the exact opposite of the late ex-Information Minister, Nathan Shamuyarira ‘who did not work against interests of the party’.
Gumbo told The Zimbabwean that since the Politburo and President Robert Mugabe had made their concerns clear, it was up to the people to decide the way forward.
“Yes, the party’s highest decision making body discussed the issue and President Mugabe made his position clear at the funeral of the late Nathan Shamuyarira.
“I cannot talk about what the president will do as the head of state, but at party level the fate of the minister in question would be decided by the people,” said Gumbo, refusing to elaborate.
Moyo is accused of reshuffling partisan staff at the state controlled media and replacing them with MDC.
Addressing mourners at Shamuyarira’s Borrowdale residents in Harare, Mugabe said it was disturbing to have a minister of information wanting to put one person against the other.
“Vese vakomana vataivanavo wachitungamirira mapepa ‘for instance’ wakatandwa kuchiiswa we MDC imi Makati tonho, muchifunga kuti arikutiitira zvakanaka.
“The devil is inside,” Mugabe said, apparently referring to Moyo, Minister of Media, Information and Broadcasting Services.
Mugabe described Shamuyarira as a former minister who put across views of the party to the people through the paper.
Observers said Moyo created enemies in Zanu (PF) by his expose of the obscene salaries at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Cooperation and other state enterprises.
Bad relations between Moyo and his Zanu (PF) colleagues were allegedly worsened by uncharacteristic critical news coverage by some state controlled newspapers, at a time Zanu (PF) factionalism was a hot issue in the media.
Mugabe’s criticism of Moyo set the tone for possible party uprising and dismissal of the spin doctor from government ahead of the coming Zanu (PF) elective congress.
Alexander Rusero, a respected media analyst, noted that Moyo could be victimised for trying to bring in a new professional trajectory of doing things in the public media against Zanu (PF) policies.
Zanu (PF) against media reforms
Rusero said Mugabe’s statements about Moyo revealed that he (Mugabe) was the Alpha and Omega of Zanu (PF) and was not prepared for reforms which served national interests.
According to Rusero, Zanu (PF) exposed its preference to recruit media workers along party lines at the expense of merit.
“People should not read much in Mugabe’s criticism of the information minister, since Moyo is a shrewd politician who would survive objects thrown his direction.
“It is Zanu (PF) which needs Moyo’s strategist skills more than Moyo needs Mugabe’s party,” said Rusero, indicating that Moyo would not lose sleep over the accusations.
Rusero described Moyo as the most ranked intellectual in Zanu (PF), who like the biblical Jonah would survive any challenge.
People should not celebrate the fall of Moyo yet, Rusero said, as the minister would have the last laugh.
Rejoice Ngwenya, a political analyst said Moyo was a natural progressive changer of things who would not want to work in dead institutions like Zimbabwe parastatals.
“Moyo is focused at development within his ministry not at Mugabe’s wishes as his paymaster,” said Ngwenya.
Mugabe’s statements, according to Ngwenya, reflected the nature of morale corrosion and resistance to forward movement in Zanu (PF).
Joyce Mujuru, Zimbabwe vice president took a swipe at individuals behind the graft expose and described them as enemies of the country.
Mujuru told a Zanu (PF) Mashonaland West Provincial Women Conference in Chinhoyi that, there could be an inside hand meant to destroy the party through the graft expose.
“There are people who know the role parastatals play towards holding the country together, who would want to fight them and destroy our party and government in the process.
“From the ZBC they would go to other parastatals such as ZESA and ZINWA.
“These people cannot be Zanu (PF). They say if you cannot beat them join them and fight from within. So beware,” Mujuru warned participants at the conference.
Speculations are flying thick that Moyo could be using his information portfolio to further party factional interests.
Efforts to get comment from Moyo were unsuccessful as he did not pick his mobile.

I am confused with developments in my Country? I thought Moyo was reflecting a new paradigm shift by ZANU PF, to champion a democratic development agenda, especially with the MDC embroiled in childish leadership fights? I had called it a diplomacy and charm offensive to reposition ZANU PF ahead of all for 2018? Maybe I was wrong. Today I hear it’s for regime change? Change to what? Please enlighten me.
Tapera, Zanu has no will to change. It has been successful in holding on to power without ant reforms and the patronage system has proven to be okay for 34 years. The part is beyond redemption. Its so mired in corruption it will just expire like that.

Of course Shamuyarira did not; Zimbabwe’s public media has always placed Zanu PF’s selfish interests of staying in power at all cost above the national interest of promoting freedom of ex-pression and free media. How ironic that the same Politburo and Mugabe who declared Sha-muyarira “national hero” are publically admitting that he served the party’s selfish interest to the detriment of the greater national good.
It is good that this corrupt and oppressive regime is on its last legs; the nation has a lot of important work cleaning up the mess and redefining its moral compass in places like The Herald House!

What Mugabe is doing is finishing the job Mai Mujuru raised in November last year at the Zanu PF Women’s conference when she the corruption stories were all lies by those bend on a regime change agenda. When she said that, she got a lot of stick from the Zimbabwe public who saw it as just yet another example of the party sweeping corruption under the carpet when they should be doing something to end the rot.
Well months later nothing was ever done to stop the rot for the simple reason that corruption has been so rampant that the likes of Cuthbert Dube and George Cha-ramba named in the PSMAS salary scandal are small fish in the scheme of things. There are people like Obert Mpofu, Ignatius Chombo and Philip Chiyangwa who have made millions from corruption. And then there are other like Mai Mujuru herself and the Mugabes whose fortunes are valued in billions of dollars. If the regime tried to punish people like Dube it was not going to be long before some of the big fish found themselves be dragged out of the muddy waters too! Of course Mugabe and Zanu PF could not take that risk.
Mai Mujuru’s mistake was to try to deny the story when it was still too fresh in the public eye and punishing the messenger at the time was no, no!
Now months later are the public have forgotten – their memory is measured in weeks at its very best – Mugabe is revisiting the scandals with vengeance. He wants the head of the Minister of Information in a silver platter and all the journalists who had anything to do with the scandal stories purged!
The nation is reliving the Willowvale Motor scandal and the aftermath was the “pro-motion” to look after the cleaners of the then Chronicle Editor, Mr Geoffrey Nyarota, who had allowed the scandal to be made public. History has the habit of repeating itself!
Unlike the Willowvale Motor scandal, there are numerous scandals this time and their effect on the national economy have been totally devastating; the national economy is in total meltdown. Punishing the messengers will not change the reality on the ground which is that the national economy is in total meltdown precisely be-cause nothing was ever done to end the cancer of corruption for years and now it has grown and spread to every public body and institution!

In his previous stint in cabinet, Moyo was beloved by Mugabe for using his talents primarily to protect the interests of Mugabe and ZANU PF’s then very challenged hold on power. Things went askew with Tsholotsho when he turned to focus his mind on matters post-Mugabe. Sounds like Mugabe is warning him – and those he represents – as history begins to repeat itself. For now, this is probably just a wing-clipping exercise.
Maybe yes it is just a warning. But again like you say, Moyo has been a useful architect in keeping Mugabe in power when Mugabe was under serious challenge, a hired gun as it were. Now with the 2013 “landslide” victory and the crumbling of the MDC, Moyo is now dispensable, at least until the party is threatened again.
Maybe the only way for Moyo to survive for now is to go public and compare Mugabe to Jesus. Others have done it before and Mugabe loves it. It will guarantee his job for a whole longer while he restrategises.
And after Kaya-Moyo’s appeal for dissporans to return, all diasporans consider that you msy be labelled just as the Moyo-appointed editors. Means you will be hated by thr systrm which will ensure you do not succeed above a level set for pple suspected to be MDC members.

My deepest sympathies goes out to the Moyo family – death in a motor accident is on the cards unless he has some contacts that would prevent the accident or he decamps quickly. Will not be able to flee to any Southern African country and he will not be welcome in Kenya as well.

Mugabe’s days are numbered. Any straight thinking man could see that the reason why they took Moyo back was to try to reign him in because he knows a lot and can hurt them. For them to say he put MDC people into posts shows how out of touch the has become. WHICH PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DECIDE HIS FATE? The people would like to decide Mugabe’s fate. Who needs one more than the other, Mugabe or Jonathan? I suspect Moyo is too mature and smart enough not to be intimidated by these hooligans, fit for no purpose. The fact of the matter is that he knows too much for their comfort.
