via Man in court over a Mugabe hobo jibe | SW Radio Africa by Mthulisi Mathuthu October 18, 2013
Yet another man was this week brought to court facing charges of undermining President Mugabe’s name, a newspaper report said Friday.
According to the NewsDay, Norman Shamuyarira appeared before Marondera Magistrate Josephine Sande on Wednesday for allegedly labeling Mugabe a hobo.
Charges are that on October 12th at a ZANU PF election victory party Shamuyarira shouted ‘Mugabe irombe’ loosely translated ‘Mugabe is a hobo’ after he was denied food.
According to the report Shamuyarira, who denies the charges, was speaking to a Watson Chividze at the party held at Mahusekwa Secondary school. Chividze, who is a member of the Zimbabwe National Army, reported the matter to the police leading to Shamuyarira’s arrest.
Shamuyarira of Mharapara Village under Chief Samuriwo was granted a $20 bail and remanded to October 30th for trial.
An official at the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights told SW Radio Africa that they had recorded ‘about 70’ such cases since 2010.
They include Chenjerai Pamhiri, a lecturer at Great Zimbabwe State University, who was jailed in May 2013 for allegedly calling Mugabe ‘a rotten old donkey’ and the then MDC-T MP for Chinhoyi, Stewart Garadhi, who was arrested in 2009. Garadhi was accused of playing a popular MDC song extolling Tsvangirai while denigrating Mugabe.
Also in 2009 student activists Clever Bere, Blessing Vava, Kurayi Hoyi and Tafadzwa Kutya were arrested after a member of the CIO overheard them discussing national politics in a commuter bus in 2009.
COMMENTS
The rate at which Mugabe is arresting people who show him “disrespect” by saying what they think about him is so alarming. At this rate, considering how unpopular and how much the majority of the people of Zimbabwe view and dislike him, he will soon have the whole country behind bars.
In western countries people have the freedom of speech about leaders. Take this as positive criticism and change where need be.
It is illegal to insult a man who has over the years; called former US ambassador James McGee a “house Negro,” called Zuma’s Lindiwe Zulu a “street woman,” described US diplomat, Jendayi Frazer as “that little girl trotting around the globe like a prostitute (the irony),” called gays “worse than pigs and dogs,” residents of Mbare “totem-less” etc. etc. He is entitled to his opinion. Zimbabweans are not – be it about him, or about who they wish to lead them..
Spot on comment
Hopeless hobo
Whether said or not, the statement stands……atokonzeresa nyika yese urombe
Yes Mugabe irombe rombe chairo Harinyari imbwa iri nani
God is going to arrest mugabe, only one day and not that far any more
Its a reflection of intolerance. You can’t argue with fools. I would have loved to interview Watson to just look into his mug and ask him one question, “what did he stand to gain by reporting an story like that to the police. I am always amazed by how Zanu PF zealots make a fool of themselves everytime. They never learn that the world is not the same anymore. You can’t even engage them in constructive criticism. You could land up in the cooler.
The courts have better things to do than try these cases.
Yes the man should be arrested for insulting hobo’s!!
I like this comment
Rombe irombe chete hazvichinje
Hobo is a compliment for mugabe
What’s so special about Mugabe thus what happens when leaders stay long in power hachinyare kana the police are also stupid vanhu should have freedom so say what they want
Mugabe icrook….had he won the elections fairly then he deserves the respect. He refused us those in diaspora to vote, when I am allowed to vote in a country which is not mine. The last election for someone to win more than 60% was Saddam and Mubarak. Why should he be worried if he is all that popular…hope soon he will join his friend Gaddafi.
Hey Fungai,
Mugabe is an old dried out Rombe that keeps flying to Malaysia for Botox injections at the expense of tax payers. You are one stupid idiot and a true mu-fourteen who cannot see that respect should only be given where it is due. How much are you being payed by Zanu PF to write these comments? You should not urge people to respect a fool like Mugabe who has no respect for human rights or the people at heart.
Ngwazi dont threaten pple what is bad is bad.Mugabe is nt God.he is human surrounded by people who are more evil than him like u who are heartless.mugabe never got 10% of the vote thats why u want us to be fearful of hm. Muri varoyi nyoka inouraya chaisingadyi
Fungai …ngwazi
“The President” is an insult to the people of Zimbabwe!
Your threat, like your hero, is a joke.
There WILL be consequences, yes, they will be in The Hague!
This is very wrong. Vanhu tinovengan mumamisha umu. Abuse of the law.
I don’t believe Mugabe hears any of these epithets, so like a tree falling in a forest which nobody hears. The only people insulted by these jibes are Mugabe’s sycophants.
Ghandi would solve this by leading the people to an appointed day, hour, and minute when all the people speak in unison the same insult, then rush in thousands to the nearest police station and demand to be arrested.
Christians might advise leading masses of people making the sign of the cross toward Mugabe, and sending a blessing to Mugabe, hourly, as long as it takes to snowball an accumulation of God’s holiness toward him, so that when God’s presence comes down on him with critcal intensity he will either repent, or he will die. Supposedly that is the way St. Martha slayed the dragon of Provence
Mugabe is a dragon.
