The Johannesburg district of Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC has rallied behind its party leader, rejecting a push for the 61-year-old ex-premier’s ouster.
Dlayila Omuhle, the newly-elected MDC Johannesburg chairperson, said in a press release that it was premature to remove Tsvangirai.
“Leadership renewal is choreographed in the corridors and offices of the enemy of the people of Zimbabwe, Zanu PF,” Omuhle said.
“We refuse to stand by and watch the derailment of the people’s project by moles who are pushing the agenda of our enemy.”
He urged people like Ian Kay, exiled treasurer-general Roy Bennet and other top MDC officials who have called Tsvangirai to step down, to either apologise or resign from the party.
“MDC Johannesburg district has observed the deplorable attacks on the person and the leader of our struggle Dr Morgan Tsvangirai,” Omuhle said.
“As Johannesburg district, we want to place it on record that we condemn these attacks veiled as the so-called “leadership renewal”.
“We call upon these “smart Alecks” who have disgraced the party by running to the media to push this self-destructive agenda to immediately withdraw and apologise publicly of their opportunistic posturing.”
This comes after Warren Park legislator, Elias Mudzuri, openly admitted he was gunning for Tsvangirai’s post.
The former Harare mayor said if the people want him to take over, he was ready.
Omuhle said no-one must be fooled to think that Tsvangirai was the problem in all that Zimbabwe finds herself in, rather the opposite is true.
“Dr Tsvangirai is very much the solution to Zimbabwe’s predatory State,” reads the statement.
The Johannesburg branch said the situation in which Zimbabwe is in does not require issues that demotivate and derail the focus of the labour-backed party.
“The so-called leadership renewal neither benefits our people nor our party but rather it diverts attention from the real issues of the day; the inability of this illegitimate government to table a National Budget,” he said.

Continue in your dreams MDC Johannesbugh. Thumbs up to Mudzuri for putting up his hand, or anyone else. Morgan is ok in the party like anyone else, but not as the next presidential candidate.
If he can work to unite the MDC and move away from his “stollen election” rhetoric may be then he could be a viable choice. Right now he is irrelevant in my eyes.
I think ZANU is safer with Morgan at the helm in MDC-T.

Just to remind people. Tsvangirai was elected to lead the party at a Congress. He is leader of the party till 2016. The move to remove President Tsvangirai prematurely is meant to throw the party into confusion. We are aware of the CIO who come to such forums advocating for President Tsvangirai’s removal.Their input should be treated with all the contempt it deserves and they should be ashamed of themselves. No true cadre can call for leadership change between congress. JHB is within its right to back the current democratically elected leadership.Those who are accusing them of endorsing President Tsvangirai are just toddlers when it comes to party politics. Who else should JHB district back besides the elected leadership. Tsvangirai is the current President and he should be supported in his efforts to rebuild the party. Comrade President Tsvangirai has over the years proved that he has the masses behind him. We have had all manner of political parties and individuals claiming to represent the interest of the people of Zimbabwe. Over and over again people have rejected them.
If we have individual s who think they have the following of the masses they have to form their own party like Madhuku, Welshman , job and many other wannabe politicians who have embarrassed themselves over the years.
ZANU PF had to resort to thieving and cheating to make sure that they subvert the will of the people.
The debate is about our Leader Tsvangirai being the choice of the people. No MP within in the MDC got more votes than him in any constituency?
Yes we admit that our intelligence services does not match that of ZanuPf because if it did we would not have allowed ourselves to be abused by ZANU Pf in the manner they did.
This is a collective responsibility that we have to attend to going forward.
Hurling insults at our Leader when some of these individuals were also responsible for the failure to protect the votes we got does not show any genuiness on the part of the champions of the calls for leadership renewal.
We stand behind our Leader . It might take years to dislodge ZanuPf. We will however not allow the enemy to determine our choices. We will chose our leaders in our own way and in our own time.

Yes he had the masses behind him but he did not use that leverage to his advantage,instead three times he made serious leadership mistakes which has cost the masses inside the country suffering.Three wrong decisions are-1-joining GNU knowing that his powers were very limited to make any meaningful change 2-withdrawing from an election at the last minute after his supporters had gone through hell 3- accepting elections without a voters roll.I am sorry he has had his chance.In all fairness the masses are not worried when the leadership will change but come 2016 he will be voted out.

Until 2016 Comrade Tsvangirai is our leader. After 2016 people would have chosen whom they see fit to lead the Party.
At the present moment, there are a few individuals who are screaming for leadership renewal before 2016 and that is the debate.
The Zimbabwean politics , economy need man who are selfless in the bigger scheme of things. If you were in Zimbabwe in 2008 , you will understand that the MDC is not about just being in power. It is about people. If MDC was led by Ocijimpi(warlords) it would have walked into power after millions had been massacred or died through hunger. Your analysis has got to go beyond just being in power. We are a democratic non violent Party and we have to conduct ourselves as such. We do not feel entitled to rule Zimbabwe and we achieve that by all means necessary.
The gangsters who are running Africa today also have a part to play as to what happens in our countries. You can not just dismiss them as irrelevant when you want to belong to the African family.if you have amongst us countries like the DRC, Equitorial G. And others who needs enemies if you are a democratic Party.
If you understand that we are not an Island then you will be less critical of why we failed to assume power when it looks as if it was obvious that we must have.
We are still waiting for the voters roll even as we speak. What we were given was a farce.
ZANUpf had lined up parties that wre going to enter into elections as these were nationwide parties. We would be sitting today with a ligitimate Gov that would have been endorsed by “opposition ” parties who participated . We are not fooled by cheap sponsored politics of leadership renewal.
It is our right to discuss leadership renewal but if it gets highjacked and sponsored we say No .No No. We will wait for our congress as planned. If people no longer want Leader Tsvangirai, they will say that when the time comes through congress in 2016.

I have not left Zimbabwe during any election, dating back to Smith era before MDC was formed.If we follow your thinking then we are in a catch 22 situation until AMEN.I personally think we would have been better off if MDC had not participated in the election until a genuine voters roll was released in accordance with SADC PROTOCOL on any election.Surely, the GNU agreement required that all the parties agree before any major change is implemented unless MDC was a junior member in the agreement.
Mixed Race…do you not agree that, had the MDC not participated ZANU would still have gone on and square up pseudo parties including MDC-N, which would have won 5 or 10 seats and claim legitimacy. To blame Tsvangson on this I think people are not being fair. Remember we at one time accused him of boycotting and being a coward. Again it is my take as an MDC symperthiser that it is not wise to change its leader at this juncture. MT has shown to have stubbornness that we need to fight ZANU tyranny. The advisors and leadership of the MDC T have to shoulder some of the blame and issues that are raised by concerned citizens and followers of the Party. The extent and angle that it is taking is what I believe does not come from people that have the future interest o father party? SADDC and all the other bodies that have monitored our elections have been at best a major disappointment. The AU chair is on record saying she always knew that Zanupf was going to win the election and this she said before the AU report was released.
What recourse and debate do you have with people whose minds had already been made up.
Yes I agree that we are in a catch 22. We have to navigate with care from here on.we will not give up, we will not sell our struggle to the highest bidder. We will press on. We are not as greedy and power hungry as some people want us to appear.
The protocols that they have set have fallen short in all of zimbabwe’s elections except when we flirting with the idea of a one party state.Zimbabwe’s GNU was skewed in favour of the then incumbent with the assistance of a man who never thought there was a crisis in Zimbabwe , Thabo Mbkeki.

Why legitimise a bunch of crooks by agreeing to join a GNU as a junior partner – when it was you who won the election? Why legitimize an election by participating in it – when the minimum conditions for credibility are not in place? Why cry rape after the fact, when you willingly got into bed with a known rapist – with the lights off, and your hands tied behind your back? If popularity and not ability to strategise or outmanouvre is what is needed, then sure, why a vote of ‘no confidence’ before congress? More of the same please!!

I have been following the arguments around calls for leadership change in MDC. People who call for such undemocratic and unconstitutional change are clearly pushing a ZANU PF agenda. I am in total agreement with Zidlekhaya and the rest, that MDC as a very Democratic Party will only entertain that after the congress. Until then, let all positive cadres of the struggle, talk about building the Party towards 2018. By so doing even those who want to contest the President’s position, will find a strong party. Who in his right mind wants to destroy a house, he loves? People who are making all the noise on leadership change, don’t love MDC and can not lead it. There is a time for everything.
