More Anti-West Rhetoric Expected in Mugabe’s UN Address

via More Anti-West Rhetoric Expected in Mugabe’s UN Address by Ntungamili Nkomo for VOA Zimbabwe 23.09.2013

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is set to address the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday with political analysts predicting that he will continue lashing at Britain and America, especially after the two countries rejected his re-election in the July 31 polls.

The veteran leader, who arrived in New York Saturday, has previously used the General Assembly to bash the two nations and their western allies for slapping his government with travel and financial restrictions allegedly “in a bid to remove him from power.”

In the period running up to his speech, Mr. Mugabe is expected to attend a number of preliminary meetings, including one on the Millennium Development Goals, which Harare admits it will not meet, thanks to Western sanctions.

Although the president is under US sanctions, he is allowed to attend UN meetings.

Observers say Mr. Mugabe will take the UN podium this year emboldened by his recent landslide victory over former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC-T party in an election endorsed by African countries and observers.

“It’s clear that President Mugabe is going to continue his tirade against Americans, the British and the West in general for having chided him on the outcome and the handling of the recent election,” political analyst Dr Nkululeko Sibanda said.

Like he has done before, Mr. Mugabe is also expected to call for the reform of the United Nations Security Council which he wants reconstituted to include permanent African members, a position supported by many African leaders

The five permanent UN Security Council members are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the US.

He will tell them like what it is. The west have been at war path with mugabe since the days of liberation struggle. They have no rispect for black africans and UN is not democratic. The other problem is that zim faught against banyamulenge the west pupperts in drc so i dont see the west forgiving mugabe. I like mugabe for being bold loud and clear on real issues than leaders who want to hide behind fingers. Sanctions are evil. Any zimbabwean must be free to travel to the west. They built their economies with our resources. Sanctions not supported by UN are not democratic

Very strange comment when it was the West that put Mugabe in power. There are always some that smoked a few too many and have a very warped perception of the real world

I totally agree. How maby times have the UN resolutions een ignored by the same countries that now tell Mugabe to tow the line? Double standards cannot be ok for one side, that is just not right

Good Grief… it’ll be the same old hate-speech. Mugabe wants legitimacy without meeting the standards. He wants to be allowed to steal without being held accountable. Let him tell his lies, but requirements for a free press is deemed “meddling”. He wants to be showered with gifts for Zim, most of which would again disappear as the personal assets of a few. But, to reveal the truth of the matter, Mugabe walks in the shadow of the Kim Jong dynasty of North Korea where the “dear supreme leader” must be unquestioned and worshipped while the people starve in oppression. He’s just mad because the rest of the world won’t allow themselves to be brainwashed. How utterly inconsiderate of them to demand truth for the sake of legitimacy.

Africanson obviously does not live in Zimbabwe or is on the ZANU PF gravy train. If nether of these is correct and he is a Zimbabwean living in Zim as nothing more than a Zimbabwean citizen, he needs to get help because he cannot rationalize what every other ordinary citizen sees and lives with.

Whose standards are you referring to when SADC and African states endorsed the elections. UN security council is not democratic and thats what the African states are saying. Does it mean if i don’t say something supporting MDC i am ZANU?. I don’t need to support ZANU or MDC to say my mind. Britain has a duty to support Zim economy as a former coloniser and abuser and it should end there. Evething else should be left to Africans.

when is enough Africanson, why should Britain continually bail you and your ilke out. Rogue states attract rogue states and businessmen who will go for bigger profit margins, if you are unreliable and deceitful why should anyone do business with you?

Afroson dnt be angry with people who wont lose sleep bcoz of mugabe. He may say watever he is going to say but that wont change their position bcoz he is a tyrant who has no respect for anyone including his own people. UN will not give him legitimacy as do the people of Zimbabwe he cheated in daylight and subjugates them to this day. He should not have gone there because he stopped them from exposing him during the just ended rigged election. You are bitter son.You need therapy.

I think there is a big need to look at abd understand the big picture. Looking to the west is not a solution because they have their own hidden agendas. This is a people who are using neo-colonialism as a means to an end all the while selling themselves as saviours. Look at Iraqi Pakistan Libiya Somalia Afghanistan and now Syria. This is way beyond Bob but really about waking up ti the reality that we are all pawns arguing about a game we dint fully comprehend. I am strong believer in africa and its people and believe that we as africans can fund solutions for our nations and continent. We cannot keep looking to the west for solutions as though we are incapacitated, to that I say kwete!

Let Mugabe and Zimbabwe be a permanent member of UN security council, looks like other dictators like China are also there! It ll be a great idea too to suggest replacing Ban Ki moon with George Charamba. Polish up yo speech George, remind him to use his Clenched fist as oppening salutation followed by “for those who expected us not to win, whether by hook or crook, I won by 61 or is is it 161%………..” Tell him to remind Obama (or is it o mbama iyo) that blacks came fromm Africa; under hash slavery conditions too. At least one idiom can help, “Your Excellency, the President of United States of America, I want you and your former black America slaves to know kuti ziva kwavabva because mudzimu weshiri uri mudendere”. George ll intepret that just a few minute be4 take off at JF Kennedy International Airport

My comments seems to support the general consencious here. Can we just keep a low profile as a country, unite our people, look for strategies and ways of improving their lives. A the stage where we do not worry about food for people in Chivi, Mwenezi, Chiredzi, Buhera ect, we can now start opening our mouths about worl injustices and Security council. Bob wants to be in theat council but as Zimbabwe we do not get anything if not more expenses for him to attend. Ko at home where he is in charge he has JOC wani, Security Council ndiyo JOC yeUN. Members who sponsor the UN are members, China was coopted when its economic fortune improved. Saka Mr President, spend more time improving Agric particularly irrigation, food is a human right which a government should ordinarily not worry about if all ducks are in a row.

Africason; You are very educated we can see it on your grammer and spellings. Unfortunately your education did not push your horizon to be wide enough to analyse issues before rumbling things you do not know. Zimbabweans are dying and struggling in abject poverty and you have the ‘cricket courage’ to say all is well in Zimbabwe. Yes SADC, African leaders and yourself are not concerned about queues of Zimbabwean people taking their loved ones to the cemetry because either numb skulls like you and the praise singers think a tyrant will reward you, and stop the madness. You can go around the world giving world leaders your piece of mind, but that will not bring bread and butter back home to your people. You are as good as a neighbour from hell.

I am a Zimbabwean, living in Zimbabwe and going through the everyday struggles of a normal Zimbabwean. What amazes me is when issues happen in Zimbabwe international society takes a magnifying glass whereas when they happen elsewhere its silence (or near silence).

Every country has its problems and its political and social ills. Did you know you cant facebook or youtube in China? Isn’t that a form of oppression? Did you know that there is also a form of indiginisation (sp) in China? you cant invest without including them. Did you know that in India there is also poverty? and also in China?

I love my country to bits and yes we have our problems, but one thing for sure, I doubt if Robert Mugabe wakes up and says, “How do i mess up my people some more today?” I agree with most of his policies, however they are quite long term, and we owe it to the next generations of Zimbabweans to painfully implement them for now, and ensure a better future. If we were to revisit these discussions in a number of years to come, you will find that Zimbabweans will probably be among the most empowered people in the world.

Yes Mugabe’s plans are not watertight, but i believe they are generally for the future good. Zimbabwe is a well resourced country and we must guard our inheritance jealously, and it must work for the general population.

There are crises all over the World, but if you look carefully, the Americas and Britains only interfere in areas where there are lots of resources. Coincidence? I don’t think so, if you have minerals and oil every powerful nation wants to be in you business, and Mugabe is simply saying no to it. Lets not have selective justice and intervention, lets do it across the board.

Did you know that on the American voters’ roll there were 2 million dead people still on the list? Had it happened to Zimbabwe, CNN would have had a field day, and sent a thousand journalists.

Lets not trade our inheritance for a bowl of soup…
