Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is set to address the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday with political analysts predicting that he will continue lashing at Britain and America, especially after the two countries rejected his re-election in the July 31 polls.
The veteran leader, who arrived in New York Saturday, has previously used the General Assembly to bash the two nations and their western allies for slapping his government with travel and financial restrictions allegedly “in a bid to remove him from power.”
In the period running up to his speech, Mr. Mugabe is expected to attend a number of preliminary meetings, including one on the Millennium Development Goals, which Harare admits it will not meet, thanks to Western sanctions.
Although the president is under US sanctions, he is allowed to attend UN meetings.
Observers say Mr. Mugabe will take the UN podium this year emboldened by his recent landslide victory over former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC-T party in an election endorsed by African countries and observers.
“It’s clear that President Mugabe is going to continue his tirade against Americans, the British and the West in general for having chided him on the outcome and the handling of the recent election,” political analyst Dr Nkululeko Sibanda said.
Like he has done before, Mr. Mugabe is also expected to call for the reform of the United Nations Security Council which he wants reconstituted to include permanent African members, a position supported by many African leaders
The five permanent UN Security Council members are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the US.

He will tell them like what it is. The west have been at war path with mugabe since the days of liberation struggle. They have no rispect for black africans and UN is not democratic. The other problem is that zim faught against banyamulenge the west pupperts in drc so i dont see the west forgiving mugabe. Good Grief… it’ll be the same old hate-speech. Mugabe wants legitimacy without meeting the standards. He wants to be allowed to steal without being held accountable. Let him tell his lies, but requirements for a free press is deemed “meddling”. He wants to be showered with gifts for Zim, most of which would again disappear as the personal assets of a few. But, to reveal the truth of the matter, Mugabe walks in the shadow of the Kim Jong dynasty of North Korea where the “dear supreme leader” must be unquestioned and worshipped while the people starve in oppression. He’s just mad because the rest of the world won’t allow themselves to be brainwashed. How utterly inconsiderate of them to demand truth for the sake of legitimacy.

Whose standards are you referring to when SADC and African states endorsed the elections. UN security council is not democratic and thats what the African states are saying. Does it mean if i don’t say something supporting MDC i am ZANU?. I don’t need to support ZANU or MDC to say my mind. Britain has a duty to support Zim economy as a former coloniser and abuser and it should end there. Evething else should be left to Africans.

I think there is a big need to look at abd understand the big picture. Looking to the west is not a solution because they have their own hidden agendas. This is a people who are using neo-colonialism as a means to an end all the while selling themselves as saviours. Look at Iraqi Pakistan Libiya Somalia Afghanistan and now Syria. I am a Zimbabwean, living in Zimbabwe and going through the everyday struggles of a normal Zimbabwean. What amazes me is when issues happen in Zimbabwe international society takes a magnifying glass whereas when they happen elsewhere its silence (or near silence).
Every country has its problems and its political and social ills. Did you know you cant facebook or youtube in China? Isn’t that a form of oppression? Did you know that there is also a form of indiginisation (sp) in China? you cant invest without including them. Did you know that in India there is also poverty? and also in China?
I love my country to bits and yes we have our problems, but one thing for sure, I doubt if Robert Mugabe wakes up and says, “How do i mess up my people some more today?” I agree with most of his policies, however they are quite long term, and we owe it to the next generations of Zimbabweans to painfully implement them for now, and ensure a better future. If we were to revisit these discussions in a number of years to come, you will find that Zimbabweans will probably be among the most empowered people in the world.
Yes Mugabe’s plans are not watertight, but i believe they are generally for the future good. Zimbabwe is a well resourced country and we must guard our inheritance jealously, and it must work for the general population.
There are crises all over the World, but if you look carefully, the Americas and Britains only interfere in areas where there are lots of resources. Coincidence? I don’t think so, if you have minerals and oil every powerful nation wants to be in you business, and Mugabe is simply saying no to it. Lets not have selective justice and intervention, lets do it across the board.
