Moyo accuses MDC-T for causing ZBC’s financial problems

via Bulawayo24 NEWS | Moyo accuse MDC-T for causing ZBC’s financial problems by Staff reporter 03 October 2013

Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo has accused the MDC-T for being most culpable for ZBC’s financial problems after failing to provide funding for the broadcaster in the budget through its secretary general and former Finance Minister Mr Tendai Biti until he left Government in August this year.

The accusations come after the MDC-T released a statement yesterday, which called for the immediate payment of salaries to the ZBC employees, saying as ‘a labour backed party’, it condemned the non-payment of salaries.

“Throughout his tenure, (Mr) Biti did not allocate a cent, let alone a dollar, to address the problems that the newspapers have been highlighting about the plight of workers at ZBC,” Moyo said.

“These problems became particularly acute during the life of the unity government and according to the newspapers, some of the workers have not been paid for five months.

“It is instructive that the MDC-T has become aware of the plight of these workers after leaving government on August 21, and this kind of hypocrisy from the MDC-T – which is clearly out of depth and beleaguered and looking for anything that can give it mileage now that it’s running on empty – does not help the problems that are being reported.”

The minister said he recognised the problems at the ZBC were “very serious as reported by the newspapers”, adding: “What the newspapers have reported paints a sorry and serious state of affairs that needs attention.

Here rises again the epitomy of all that is pathetically flawed in politics – the public airing of the mouthings of a chequered, flip-flopping spin doctor passing the buck! Ignore him and he might just go away, once more, like the proverbial worm.

ZBC is a parastatal correct? As such, isn’t it the responsibility of the corporation to be profitable and to meet all of their financial obligations? Why should Biti, or the current government be responsible for paying anyone at ZBC? Ask the bosses what happened to the money they were paid by the MDC-T to run campaign advertisements? ZBC took the money and then refused to run them. Who pocketed that?

Biti presented his budget and you as ZNU PF did not seek adjustments in parliament.Isnt the budget presented in parliament and live on ZTV? The problem is that you will be sleeping in parliament and start asking questions when you are hit hard. How do you expect Biti to give ZBC money when all the money is going to champion lavish lifestyles of ZBC executives? How do you explain US 20 000 monthly salaries of ZBC executives? On what results do you base their Key result area?So you wanted Biti to give ZBC money to sing hate speech against the Prime Minister and MDC? Spare us.If a lion is fainting with hunger , leave it alone. If you play good Samaritan and give it food, it will eat you first as its prwy.Maitadza kuona nezvemaparastatals coz you were busy looting now moti Biti THIS N THAT.Zvimwe zvinhu Jona ita mushe. All parastatals are headed by retired majors, who know nothing but demanding lavish perks

@Tino, wagona. Hapana zvatingataura kupfuura apa. On what grounds really would ZBC be given financial support. It doesn’t make sense at all, as it should be operating as a profitable entity. What form of productivity is ZBC engaged in that generates exports and forex? These non productive entities that siphon the tax payer coffers don’t deserve any restitution from the fiscal.

This notion of building non-productive institutions and burden the tax payer has ruined economies across the globe. Just check the numbers in the army and the police! Do we really need them? They are non – productive entities that are largely used to serve the interest of the elite, (those in power) while draining the fiscal coffers at the expense of the tax payer.

The disillusioned Moyo, like his clueless leader now uses MDC as a scapegoat for the problems he created when he was Minister of Information then. Be reminded Moyo that what goes around comes around. This is your baby that you bore some years ago and is still in your care. What do you expect really kana uchidhotera pamumvuri waunozororera???? Get the stinky man-Professor.

I think Jonathan Moyo’s big head is an abnormality on part of his brain. That man may actually enter the Guinness book of records as the most idiotic person living on planet earth at the moment. Blaming the MDC-T for what? Who is the author of the author of the demise of the entire Zim nation? Surely, everyone knows it’s not MDC-T. Is it that everyone in Zanu PF has now gotten so used to the blame game. What kind of a leader are you Jona who cannot take responsibility. I think every time your wife goes for her monthly periods you blame it on someone. Shame on you. You remind me of how King Leopard the 2nd sent Missionaries to Africa with a clear mandate of teaching children to read and write, but not to reason. You are a pure product of that wicked system.

President Mugabe did very well to take back this Prof back and sort out the mess he caused at ZBC. This is time to deliver Jona than blaming someone who is out of government. What ZBC workers need are salaries not blame games, what goes around comes around.

Asi MDC wo shuwa! Why is it making statements about ZBC employees before issues like MDC supporters still in prison, unsolved political murders, huge money gobbling delegations to the USA….
And this of course, is the real Moyo; not the fake “gentler, kinder” apparation projected recently

Put it up for sale if it cannot support itself. There many people with enough money who can turn that parastatal into a money making machine and I know there are many who are willing. The ZBC can actually contribute in paying for the whole ministry if its run properly. Presently there 100 000 DSTV subscribers in Zimbabwe. At $30/month each (average) thats a revenue of $3 million a month and $36 million a year. Compare that to the other 1 million televison sets in the country. If value is created on their screens they will probably add $10 each/month through advertisers and you can get as much as $10million/month. Industry is loosing out because no one is advertising our own products. People will simply buy what they see on SABC and etv i.e. south african products. we are shooting ourselves not just in the foot but all over the body in everything we do yet always blame someone else.

Do you know that DSTV initially wanted to set up its HQ in Zimbabwe but was turned down by government! Doing business, real business with ZANU PF in charge is not possible because they view everything as a potential threat to their political survival. As a Zimbabwean I have had to set up business outside the country despite the fact that I would have liked to do it at home. The reality of the matter is that the political atmosphere in Zimbabwe poisons everything. ZANU PF does not care about this as long as they are in power and continue to steal. It should be government policy that any parastatal that fails closes shop! Just dreaming, this will not happen because we all know who is responsible for the failure of the organizations

What goes around comes around, Why not retrench employees atZBC and close the thing if it’s not making money. Bussines is about profit and not loss. If ZBC has to look for money from Biti or Chinamasa zviri wrong zvachose. Or sell it to someone the Jona will start with the equipmemt from china the way he want.

I totally agree with most of you guys that it should be sold out to those who have resources and the ingenuity to manage it into a viable entity. However I would like to say that whatever the ZANU cronies have laid their hands on goes down the drain. The list has been given – @tino. They don’t have the pedigree to viably manage these institutions. One other observation is that ZBC has virtually been reduced to a ZANU PF mouth – piece, a propaganda machinery and to let it go is not in the best interest of the party and its cronies.

They would rather siphon resources from the fiscal than let go into private ownership. The same goes for the ZBC TV. This is in no way fair to the taxpayer. Happison and team are equally clueless and have no idea whatsoever on how to run and manage an institution like ZBC in a sustainable manner. They feed on handouts, but for how long?
