#mugabe blasts MDC-T for being a ‘violent’ party

via Mugabe blasts MDC-T for being a ‘violent’ party | SW Radio Africa by Tichaona Sibanda on Monday, February 24, 2014

Mugabe on Sunday claimed the MDC-T is closely associated with violence and should not be allowed to get into government.

He said this at Rudhaka stadium in Marondera during celebrations to mark his 90th birthday. The ageing ZANU PF leader celebrated the occasion with thousands of supporters on Sunday.

Mugabe’s attack on the MDC-T comes at a time when the opposition is facing criticism for what transpired over a week ago, when some of its youth members manhandled its deputy treasurer Elton Mangoma, for allegedly urging party leader Morgan Tsvangirai to step down.

“We cannot have a party of that nature coming into government — even allowing them to have seats to dominate possession of Parliamentary seats in our urban areas — Harare and Bulawayo. That is wrong,’ he said. Over the weekend police arrested an MDC-T youth leader accused of assaulting Mangoma, James Chidhakwa. He is the MDC-T secretary for security and defence in the youth assembly.

Victims of ZANU PF violence have come off a lot worse

Mugabe’s statement was immediately rebuked by many from the MDC-T and civil society organisations (CSO’s). Political analyst Hopewell Gumbo said while the Mangoma incident is regrettable, Mugabe is no saint when it comes to violence.

‘His party is not only violent, but its history is littered with numerous epochs of death, yet he is in power, in fact using violence to get power,’ Gumbo said.

The MDC-T MP for Mbizo in KweKwe, Settlement Chikwinya, told SW Radio Africa that Mugabe should be the last person in Zimbabwe to accuse anyone or any organisation of being associated with violence.

‘Mugabe has stayed at the helm of government due to violent antics. He has defined and redefined the political landscape of Zimbabwe as a violent fabric where only the law of the jungle prevails.

‘The President is in government as a direct beneficiary of violence. In 2008 Better Chokururama, Godfrey Kauzani and Tonderai Ndira and many other cadres were murdered for ZANU PF to achieve an opportunity to be accommodated in the inclusive government,’ said Chikwinya.

And no Zimbabwean will ever forget Mugabe and ZANU PF’s most extreme violent act, the Gukurahundi, in which an estimated 20,000 people lost their lives.

The MDC IS closely associated with violence. They are often the victims of ZANU-PF violence. Of course they are not the sole recipients of ZANU-PF violence. WOZA, NGO’s, the judiciary, white farmers and any citizen not a member of ZANU-PF are also on the list of preferred targets.

In much the same way as Zanu have been victims of MDC violence.
In Harare South Truck near Landas loads of MDC supporters went village to village beating up people in the night, this continued for three days until the army arrived to stop it. They said it was in retaliation for a conflict between youths in Seki, which the villagers probably knew nothing about.
Next to the golf club on an adjacent farm, all inhabitants including babies were murdered, had their eyes removed and eyes and mouths filled with Sadza as reported in the Herald.
In the morning vote MDC banners were erected along the boundary fence.
At the time MDC officials said it was in retaliation, you need to retaliate against babies like that!!
What surely may be agreed is there is a problem with political violence amongst youth and all parties should ensure these are expelled from political parties and punished, but don’t try and say that MDC supporters are angels because we all know its a lie.

What a hypocrite! To RGM, “You have destroyed your land and slain your people, ” The soil of Zimbabwe runs red and he won’t acknowledge his sin. The Lord says He will not allow sin to be hidden forever. It will be exposed. No repentance! No restoration!

The weak and infirm are the violent ones, everyone but himself has stayed in power too long, we are not corrupt it is the sanctions that made us do it? These are the rambling of a senile geriatric who is kept in power by those that have too much to lose when he goes.

Mangoma should have used the way of summons against the perpetrators of violence, why i say so because he was not physicaly harmed [thank you for that] Here is the million dollar question is mangoma going to be accepted back in the party like before?politicaly how is this going to affect him emotionaly ,is he going to join zanu because the police and zanu in my opinion is one thing and at the moment they fighting in his corner.

It is almost certain that Mangoma’s political career is over. His stated desire to lead the MDC is informed by sheer lunacy or gross under rating of the members of that party. In a scuffle a shirt is torn and spectacles are broken. Is that enough reason to deliver your own children to Pharaoh. Now almost all the youth leaders are fair game for the police. When did it become proper to run to the Zanu system to report your own like that? I do not condone the violent behaviour by whoever but now that people are being denied bail is Mangoma happy that justice is being done? Does he see a future for himself in opposition politics? This could have been handled smartly and internally
