POLITICAL analysts yesterday said President Robert Mugabe, who turns 90 today, had given his biggest hint yet that he would not hand over power to anyone and would die in office.
Mugabe was quoted in the State media saying he would not retire soon because his Zanu PF party was still divided and threatened senior party officials with unspecified action for fomenting factionalism.
Analysts said Mugabe had used the excuse of Zanu PF disintegrating if he left over the years because he was the biggest beneficiary of factionalism in the party.
Political analyst Dumisani Nkomo said Mugabe was likely to die in office as he had never shown any interest to hand over power.
“I have always said he won’t hand over power to anyone, either to (Justice minister Emmerson) Mnangagwa or (Vice-President Joice) Mujuru,” he said.
“Maybe his son if he is old enough.
“Factionalism works to his advantage as he becomes the central figure within Zanu PF.
“You will realise that he props each faction with time so that he maintains a balance and becomes the father figure, the cardinal point from where the party holds.”
Another analyst Rodrick Fayayo said: “Mugabe has been consistent in the way he has been doing things leading to some saying he will succeed himself.
“At 90, we have to look at the legacy that Mugabe is leaving, that includes the killing of 20 000 people in Matabeleland during Gukurahundi and never said sorry.
“He turned the jewel of Africa into an empty basket case.”
He said Mugabe’s attack on factionalism was a mere public show alleging that he noted it in private.
“The existence of factionsdetermines his stay in power. If the party is divided, he cashes in on that to remain at the helm,” Fayayo said.
Political scientist Greg Lennington added that Mugabe had no intentions of retiring.
“He has made a number of signals that he seems to think that he is God-send,” he said.
“He is bound to die in office. To some extent, having factions appears to suit him.”
“He plays one against the other, although in public he presents the impression that he is against factionalism. He has vested interests in factionalism.”
COMMENTS
After watching those interviews I have my doubts he will die in power. He will just fail to operate like Castro. He is not making much sense.
Please take note that 3 out of the 4 are Communist schooled African dictators, and the majority of their citizens still live in poverty while they live like royalty off of the money and riches they’ve plundered from their own county and people.
None have a proper functioning legal system, education, or medical facilities more than a quarter of a century after taking office and nothing likely to change any time soon.
All are validations of the communist theology of ” a party, once in power stays in power until removed by force”. They also validate Ian Smith’s prophecy of “one man-one vote=one time”.

My Considered View:
1. RGM Legacy: The list is long and positive: Education, Peace and tranquility, Land Ownership, Resources Ownership, African Pride and Confidence.
2. Gukurahundi Rebellion: RGM handled that rebellion in an examplary manner- any and every legitimate govt that faces rebellion aims to nip it in the bud.The rebellion had the potential to douse the flickering flames of our independence. Anyone who encourages or supports armed banditry in Zim will face the same fate- in actual fact all patriots must fight it off with their bare hands. Examples of anti-rebellion: Sri Lanka, bloody Sunday, etc. Anyway our parliament brought closure to that issue.
3. Handing over Power: That’s neither necessary nor desirable soon after RGM has been given a fresh 5 year mandate by 67% of the electorate. They all knew his age and birthday. Saka hapana nyaya.
4. Higher Calling: When RGM’s time comes, there are many disciples of Mugabeism within and outside ZPF who will continue with his doctrine- by saying aluta continua. Observe how Juju in Rsa is using the doctrine in his manifesto. The doctrine has caught on home and away!
5. Factions: Every vibrant party has them. the trick is how to manage them to the party’s advantage!
This is too much to resist. Point for point riposte.
1 Education -busted- standards fallen so far, crying shame. Far worse than the colonial government. Peace and tranquility, maybe for the dead of the governments various campaigns, for everybody else harassment, lack of justice, high crime, poverty, lack of services. Resource ownership – for a few who are connected, who exploit at the cost of everybody else. ZANU apparatchiks and the like. African pride and confidence – yes in the blatant racism of the president and his party and in the way that they have destroyed everything and made this country the laughing stock of the world.
2 Gukurahundi – the wanton murder of thousands of innocents in the most barbaric and savage way. The very opposite of civilized conduct.
3 Handing over of power after the most disgracefully rigged election. Mugabe is not the legitimate president of Zimbabwe. What he has done is subvert the will of the people and amounts to a coup. Mugabe is a pathetic little cheat.
4 lower calling. He is notorious around the world and is not welcome in civilized company. He is hailed by looney tunes, racists and fascists around the world.
5 Factions – Every man (or woman) to himself to steal as much as possible regardless of the damage caused to other people

I lough all the time people say Mugabe has turned the once jewel of Africa into this or that. They will not tell you whose jewel it was. Zimbabweans did not own anything in the so called jewel. Houses in the high density surbabs where blacks were forced to live whilst in towns through racial segregation were municipal properties. Black people could not purchase farms in fertile and productive areas. They were relegated to the so called African purchase areas – places no different from the dry rural areas. Zimbabweans were not allowed to participate in commerce and industry except as slave labourers. So, in the so called once jewel of Africa, Africans, the real owners of the country had nothing. If one went to the Tobacco Auction floors, one would never see a black face. Jewel of Africa?? What liers?? Go to tobacco auction floors today and see who is selling tobacco and making millions of dollars. If the truth be told, Zimbabwe is now the jewel of Africa because it is the only african country where the indiginous people can talk of or boast of ownership of land, resources and other fawcets of the economy. So the next time day dreamers who wish the country were Rhodesia again decide to relieve the stupid dream of the past they should spare us that old and tiered argument that Zimbabwe used to be the jewel of Africa. I cannot for the life of me understand why this character tries to justify the Gukurahundi massacres when Mugabe himself admits and says it was a time of madness. Mugabe is the oldest executive president in the world actually. Shimon Peres does not have any executive power, these are vested in the prime minister Benjamin Netunyahu.
