Mujuru must resign

via Mujuru must resign – DailyNews Live by Fungi Kwaramba  11 FEBRUARY 2014

Acting President Joice Mujuru must resign for “condoning corruption” in government and State-owned enterprises, media experts and political analysts said yesterday.

This follows her “outrageous” call for the media to stop covering the obscene salaries of managers of State-owned firms pocketing millions of dollars in pay while the economy stutters.

Besides outrageous salaries, bosses at State enterprises are also involved in massive corruption in procurement where they inflate invoices for personal gain.

Mujuru said the media campaign that has riveted the nation was part of a crusade by enemies within Zanu PF working for the downfall of the party.

She made the controversial remarks while addressing the party’s Mashonaland West provincial women’s conference in Chinhoyi on Saturday.

“Nditeererei madzimai … Iyi nyaya yatiri kutaura iyi yehuori hwemaparastatals muchenjere kuti ndeimwe nzira yaunzwa nevanhu vari kuda kupwanya nyika ino iyi (Please listen to me ladies, regarding reports about corruption in parastatals -— be careful — it’s another tactic being used by those keen to destroy the country),” she said.

In thinly veiled remarks seen as targeted at Information minister Jonathan Moyo, who has been spearheading an anti-graft campaign that has won kudos from many Zimbabweans, Mujuru said this was a campaign meant to ensure the party implodes.

“Regai kuzoti vanhu vacho havasi veZanu-PF, aiwa, zvinonzi kana usingagone kumukurira unomujoina, worova uchibva mukati make, saka mochenjera (Do not say these people are not Zanu PF … it is said that if you cannot defeat them join them and attack from within; so be careful).”

Moyo has tapped into genuine concerns in the ruling party about the money gobbled by perennially loss-making State companies and said corruption was  “allegedly rampant among the 78 parastatals and State enterprises and the 92 local authorities in the country”.

Now dubbed the “Salarygate scandal’, it has sucked into its vortex ZBC and Psmas, the State-run health insurer for civil servants and the Harare City Council.

Mujuru, reportedly leading the stakes to succeed Mugabe, who turns 90 on February 21, said the media must back off the scandal.

“Nyaya idzi hadzitongwe mumanewspaper; inyaya dzinonyatsogadzirwa magadzirirwo adzo,” (These issues should not be dealt with by newspapers. We have a way to deal with the issues)  she said adding that the way the scandals were being reported suggested other motives beyond fighting corruption.

Brian Mangwende, chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (Zinef) said the media was duty bound to expose corruption.

“With all due respect to the powers that be, it is the media’s role and duty, lest it is found wanting, to expose corruption and abuse of office by public officials, who thrive on tax payers’ money,” Mangwende said.

“Let it be made clear that, the exposure has no malicious intention but to bring sanity to otherwise errant public servants.”

Foster Dongozi, secretary general of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists, sarcastically suggested that the VP was probably misquoted.

“I don’t think it is true that the VP said that,” Dongozi told the Daily News.

“The vice president is a patriotic person and could never have said that. The media is there to do exactly what it did. The media has done its patriotic role of exposing the rot in the high corridors of power, with all due respect, I would like to think that she was misquoted. It doesn’t make sense because everyone is agreed on the issue.”

After winning the disputed elections last year, Mugabe told journalists to bring evidence of corruption, even to the State House, and Mujuru’s remarks are seen going against the grain.

Although Mugabe is yet to make a public statement on the salary  gate, Moyo, has said the veteran leader was dismayed by the scandal.

Pedzisai Ruhanya, Zimbabwe Democracy Institute director, said Mujuru’s utterances were politically corrosive to the standing of the government as a whole.

“What is important for Zimbabweans to note is that the ongoing corruption is State and government-sanctioned,” Ruhanya said. “It also tells us without any shadow of doubt that Mujuru should not be allowed to be the next president of Zimbabwe; she is not fit for that job because the State will be a huge crook.

“Under normal circumstances, citizens should rise up and demand her immediate resignation from public office. That statement is disgraceful.”

Britain-based Zimbabwean journalist and social commentator Innocent Chofamba Sithole said: “Mai Mujuru fails totally to read the national mood on corruption. Against the background of a so-called succession race that is long on personalities and short on policy debate, utterances such as these provide telling clues about the suitability of some of these alleged front-runners in their bid to succeed President Mugabe.

“As a journalist, I am also deeply troubled by the VP’s apparent attack of the media’s role as the Fourth Estate. We’ve been waiting a long time to see a public media with real teeth, and just when they’re beginning to do so, we are told the media has no business exposing corruption?”

What we as Zimbabweans and (might I add as an audience) I say audience because we are just watchers at this stage.. Are we being played yet again? Let us call for Joyce to resign so must Munangagwa. Be very very careful about these internal fights. Why is he so quiet? Is he leaving Jonathan to clear up for a possible take over. We all know that the Professor is a strategist. Is he setting up the uneducated Mujuru? You guys that prophesize with your pens. Dig deep and see what Munangagwa is doing. Do not take your eyes off him.

      @Doctor do little

Corruption is corruption doctor, and it destroys an entire socitey, its hope, its people, its morale fabric…itis not desirable. It is like leaven that maketh bad the whole bread. It must be nipped in the bud, and please note, for the ordinery underpriviledged Zimbabwean, it does not matter who is scheeming against who in this day and age as long as exposing bad social vices is a by-product of that. So let them scheme against each other allright, infact I’d rather nasty fights are faught so that bad blood is whipped away. Nature has its own way of curling infectious/contagious stock. And Unkulunkulu, God Most High approves, and assigns messengers to right societal wrongs in good season. Ghengis Khan once wrote “…I am the punishment of God, if great sins had not been commited, God would not have sent me…” This is not time to be wondering whether this is the schemeing of so and so against so and so Inc.It should be time to wonder why these waring schemers should omit from their schemes, head-on collision itineraries with corruption.I find it heart-warming that the fighting giants will name and shame each other’s corrupt ways for common good. And, lest we forget, it will be determined from the degree of dirty smeared and stickin on each one that tells who is clean. Zimbabwe needs great works, great sacrifices, great moves to swipe its mess. Why Do little in these circumstances? This is time to be called Do More.

This idiot Joyce Mujuru thinks that the people are gullible just like in the 1980’s. The situation has changed dramatically and you cannot continue blaming colonialism and so called illegal sanctions. Its common knowledge that Zanu Pf alone has destroyed the economy. Now we want to uproot them stem leaf and branch. Joyce knows very well she is the next victim in all these scandals so she wants to gag the media but its a bit late for this buffoon. This dog should never be allowed to succeed Mugabe idofo rinonyadzisa sechembere yatinetsa iyo.

When Zanu took over power, it is believed $3billion left the country. People felt insecure with the economy under Zanu mismanagement. Of this $3 billion ,$1 billion was from the Zanu Chefs.

True colors……Joyce is fighting fire with fire….she is trying to protect her own turf from the impending disaster because, her hands are dirty too. She will soon be History. many of our politicians failing to read the mood of the nation …they cannot see change coming their way. The right thing to do is to fight corruption without fear or favor Mi Mujuru.

This is not fair. Why is everyone picking on her? This is a deliberate attempt by Mnangagwa’s media frenzied pack of wolves to oust his competition.

As Zimbabweans, we should stop being so selectively stupid, we should oust the whole of ZanuPF. That is the only hope we have to stop their looting.

Look at Mugabe and his looting of the people’s property in Hong Kong! Why are we so quiet about this?

We need to emulate North Africa and throw the whole lot of them out.

Remember, if good men and women do nothing, you get the regime you deserve. This is not the time for complacency or cowardice.

@Nzou- you are almost raising a point but unfortunately in a bit aggressive way .

I as an MDC T member , this is where i stand , i will stand at this point not because i am on the opposition side but i do so because i understand that corruption is a criminal offence to be proved in a court of law , at the present moment we are based on allegations which should be proved in a court of law , really we can not simple humiliate Mujuru for her statements , we need to have enough evidence then we will be able to kick out Mujuru , she must also be investigated and proved to be implicated to corruption then i will support the call that she must be removed from the seat .

ZANU PF is having factions , this call for Mujuru to resign is not mainly from us the oppositions but it is from the other faction led by Mnangagwa , these people are stabing each other and they expect us as opposition parties to play a role here , we must be wise comrades . Ok let Mujuru resign , then what next , should we give this country to Mnangagwa and Jonathan , we would rather leave this country in the hands of Mugabe because Mnangagwa is another Mugabe .

Khaya’bonina I respect you point of view however we need upstanding leaders of integrity which I very much doubt you will find any in ZPF. Many of us were members but have left this cesspit which masquerades as a political party when we realised what they really were.

Madam Corruption Vice_President Joyce Teurayi Ropa Nhongo_Munjuru, future president of Zimbabwe. Haaa, haaaa, looting continues unabated. Viva, corruption! viva looting! Joyce for presidency; Viva! Anything goes, in Teurayi Ropa’s rule. Why not even: Viva shedding of blood! Viva kuteura Ropa; viva!

Obviously, in any empty basket, which Zimbabwe has been reduced to at Joyce & obviously Mugabe’s instigation, people die unceremoniously and from cause that are easily preventable in other countries around us. If that is not blood shedding by the key architects of the country’s current state (who are chiefly Joyce & Robert together with their hangers-on) then nothing can be.

@Saddened i agree with you very well , among the top members of ZANU PF with this kind of autocratic leadership style i don’t see our country going forward , Mugabe can be of the seat but these oxen will continue imitating him simple because they have got no strategy. Personal i thought Mujuru was the possible candidate for ZANU PF unfortunately she is destroying herself , even her enemies from her party are now taking an advantage of her statement , she failed to guard herself that is her weak point .

Quote…”We will prevail no matter what.. I am Doctor do little and I am Zimbabwean.”
Exactly…. “Do Little” which kind of summarises the pathetic way Zimbabweans sit back and let themselves be subjected to this. Morgan, Emmerson, Joyce..irrelevant, as long as they have a nice house on Kew Drive (Morgan) and preferably German car the same will continue for as long as any of us are on this earth and then some.

“I am not the one” Brother I hear you. Zimbabweans are not stupid. They have seen the DRC. They have seen Somalia, they have seen Egypt and many more. My brother the Israelites marched around a certain city without weapons and as you know the certain city fell. We have no weapons. We are just marching around a certain country which is home. WE WILL PREVAIL.
