Russian miner DTZ-OZGEO says its diamond operations in the east of the country will produce 50,000 carats of gems per month at full capacity by end of year after exploration, an official said on Friday.

DTZ-OZGEO, a 60/40 joint venture between Econendra of Russia and the Development Trust of Zimbabwe, is one of the six miners operating in the Marange diamond fields.

Last month, the government’s environmental agency closed its alluvial gold mining operations at Redwing mine over environmental concerns.

In 2012,  it signed an agreement on technical cooperation with Alrosa – a global Russian diamond miner when it started exploring for diamonds in the area.

According to government, DTZ has been part of the three diamond auctions held in Antwerp, Belgium and Dubai.

Spokesperson, Clara Ngwenya said the company had imported machinery from South Africa and Russia.

“We invested $20 million for acquisition of the high-tech diamond plant in Chimanimani. This figure excludes what we spent on exploration,” said Ngwenya.

“We expect to reach full capacity by the end of this year.”

Alrosa is the world’s largest diamond producer by volume, accounting for over a third of global rough diamond production.

Russia is the largest diamond producer and its 2013 production is estimated at 33 million carats, with Alrosa accounting for about 97 percent.

Alrosa also sits on the largest rough diamond reserves in the world, with operations in Angola and Botswana.

“Zimbabwe is of interest for the geological exploration and, possibly, for the establishment of joint diamond-mining enterprises,” Alrosa said on its website.

Two of a kind working together? Zimbabwe and Russia. Russia is busy executing a “controlled revolution” in Crimea and Ukraine just as Zanu has executed a “controlled revolution” in Zimbabwe since the year 2000. That way the Communist Leaders can afford to have US$5 million weddings fir their children – “in the interests of democracy and the people of course.” Can we remember the controlled revolution in Matabeleland that saw the murder of 20 000 civilians. At least we all know that that they are Zanu/Russia controlled (and planned) exercises. Ask the now exiled Russian world chess champion – he has being watching Putin’s every move and can see Putin’s game unfolding. I wonder if the UN would listen to a Russian chess master?

This is very good because we now have the LARGEST in the business: PLEASE NOTE: – Alrosa is the world’s largest diamond producer by volume..
Russia is the largest diamond producer and its 2013 production is estimated at 33 million carats, with Alrosa accounting for about 97 percent….
Alrosa also sits on the largest rough diamond reserves in the world, with operations in Angola and Botswana…. – So you see Liuetnant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama was, is and will never be a fool. He deals with them all – even the DeBeers oligarchs., Let us have the best do the job.. not the ZNA or small boys like ANGIN.- they steal big time. If we play with the BIG BOYS other Big boys in other industries will invest here as well… and the Zim dollar will be equivalent to the US Dollar like in our days once again. BIG UP MASSIVE!!!.

Can we summarise the “benefits” so far to the locals near this diamond mine:
    1) Forced removal of families off a once productive piece of farm land.
    2) Cause a massive scar on the landscape within sight of a National Park….not going to help long term tourism future at all.
    3) Do absolutely nothing to assist in the repairs or maintenance of the terrible road leading to that mine which has to be used by most local people travelling to Timber Plantations beyond it.

4)Jobs for local people perhaps? Don’t bet on it.

    MMMMmmm sound familiar?

Gomo did you know that if a gold deposit was found under your luxurious estate in Borrowdale or Makokoba for that matter you would be “force evicted” so that the resource be exploited.
*There are millions of hectares of productive farmland lying idle as we sp.eak?
*Tourism brings more money than diamonds…..? Is that what you think or know??
*Why did the timber plantation company not manufacture a road to the plantations all along???instead of just cutting down trees.. I want answers from you..
This surely does not sound familiar.. These are not Angin and soldati.?
