A gay mugabe? Must be a hoax…
This week in karma, a bunch of people started celebrating when the son of Robert Mugabe – long-term Zimbabwean dictator and notorious despiser of gays – announced that he was coming out. According to the esteemed WordPress blog Lifestyle Tabloids, Chipape Mugabe merrily revealed his sexuality on the popular British radio show that I’m sure you’re all familiar with, Good Morning UK.
“My father is probably still very shocked, therefore I’m giving him space to allow all these news to sink in, more so, to get him used to the idea of having a gay son. I sincerely hope my revelation will allow people to stop and think; what if my own child is gay?” chirruped Chipape, as tons of people subsequently copied and pasted the link onto my Facebook wall.
Obviously, this story is amazing, the only problem with it is that Chipape doesn’t exist. (TBH, I’m not even sure Chipape exists as a name.) The site even has a disclaimer literally one click away from the “Mugabe son comes out” story:

Sure enough, this story is published in the Satirical category. Also, the design of Lifestyle Tabloids is orange and brown, and let’s face it, only a maniac would be able to put those colours together with a straight face.

Vamwe vanhu vanoita zvakapusa chaizvo! Whoever writes such absolute rubbish deserves whatever comes their way if they get caught. It’s so stupid to publish such rubbish and lies, it only strengthens Zanu’s propaganda that the opposition ‘always tells lies’ about them, now they have an example of such an ‘untruth’!
Be careful when you publish such utter rubbish, you are discrediting the people’s struggle against this evil regime!
There is nothing wrong here, in what way does it discredit the struggle of the people. In the first place the story was published in the sattire section with a disclaimer for crying out loud. On the other hand even if Mugabe’s son was gay, why should we be surprised and for that matter, being gay is a human right and let it. He would have not been the first or last gay to come out of the closet. Mugabe as against as he is on gay issues he must understand that people don’t choose to be gay.
Oh, so it’s okay to publish something which is not true? It might be funny in the western world, but this is a sensitive issue in Zimbabwean politics shamwari. And, nobody said anything negative about gay people, or their right to be gay, but my point is that publishing falsehoods plays into Zanu’s hands and gives them ammunition when they launch their attacks against the independent press, regardless of whether it was published in a satire section or where-ever!
Such journalists would be better advised to focus on real issues such as corruption, unemployment and various other issues of real relevance as a result of 33 years of misrule.

This gay business is a sickness thats why its difficult to sell.
Yet another preposterous attempt by the forces aligned against Mugabe and the redistributive policies of ZANU-PF. I pray those chosen to lead this stage of the revolution have the stomach and conviction of their ideals.
