via ‘Grace-mania’ hits Harare streets 08 September 2014
THE Grace Mugabe mania has gone a gear up with some motorists in Harare now jostling to outdo each other in campaigning for the First Lady as the ruling Zanu PF party heads towards a key congress in December.
Grace is expected to be officially elected the Zanu PF Women’s League boss after she accepted nomination at the party’s women’s conference last month.
Her entry into formal politics has however seriously divided the ruling party with a faction backing Vice-President Joice Mujuru said to be opposed to her political ambitions.
Ronnie Danga, who said he is a staunch Zanu PF supporter from Goromonzi, said they felt it was their duty to campaign for the First Lady as a way of thanking President Robert Mugabe.
“We see nothing wrong in us in the party using our resources to campaign for the First Lady. She is the wife to our President and we need patriotic Zimbabweans to respect the First Family,” he said.
“This is also a sign of showing confidence in our leaders and the president’s leadership. Everyone is grateful for the good things he has done for us and only a witch would not want to see good things.”
“It is my choice and no one has a right to tell me who to support and why I have chosen to advertise the First Lady using my car,” Muzondo said.
The development also comes after President Robert Mugabe lambasted Zanu PF officials said to have been trying to block the First Lady from joining structures in the capital.
“I want to hear why she should leave Harare, going where? I would also want to know where the emperor of Harare got his powers from.”
But a political commentator, Vince Musewe, said most of the people openly supporting Mugabe were doing so for “survival reasons”.
“Those people using their resources to campaign or advertise Mugabe’s wife are not doing that from their hearts. They fear for their future survival politically ahead of the congress and this is not new in Zanu PF,” he said.

Why would any reasonable person be against. what’s her crime except being a good wife to the President. Besides who else in Zanu-pf is fit to take over when Mugabe is gone. I am 100% for the first lady as president. What has all the fools in ZANU-Pf done except worshiping Mugabe, whether he is right or wrong. Pamberi namai. I for one do not really care much about whos is who but the truth is if these are their cars, their property, its their constitutional right to paint whoever they want on their cars, houses, clothes whether rented or not.However if its government property then thats a different issue altogether.
Tapiwa I totally agree. Only if we tried to do the same say with Margeret Dongo’s picture on our cars would our constitutional rights be respected? No. You’ll be arrested on the spot and most probably beaten up in the process.
To tell you the truth I wouldn’t know (me being in the dispora) what would happen if Margret Dongo did that but my own humble point is that its these people’s democratic right to do so and so long as they are not infringing anyone’s rights by putting these on their cars let them do so.Just like if someone wants to wear a t-shirt with someone’s picture on it let them do so I for one would not not even what some people call celebrities.

Maybe she is a criminal or maybe she is not but for now the judicial system in Zim (even if it favors her) does not count her as a criminal so its her constitutional right.

tapiwa I like your debate. My only problem with this woman is that she does not Mother the nation. It,s her constitutional right. She and her husband abuse public funds whilst those she is supposed to mother struggle to survive. Its her constitutional right? She evicts Zimbabweans from their land irrespective of their color or creed from land her husband invaded from productive people. Its her constitutional right? She is no Michele Obama, and she is certainly no Sally Mugabe. Its her constitutional right. Some of the things here are not in the constitution. Its her constitutional right as the wife of the president of Zimbabwe to ignore the constitution?
Grace does not respect the constitutional right of other people and she thinks she is above the law just because her husband is the president. That is not right and it is indeed evil.
For her to infringe on other people’s rights is quite normal to her and this is what irks some people.
I hope that one day the law will catch up with her. Recently she has been taking vast tracts of land on the pretext that she wants the land for her orphanage but the question to be posed is how big is that orphanage going to be? Bigger that UZ campus in Mt Pleasant?

Hi Tapiwa. I do respect the comments that you have every right to make but in Zimbabwe only ZANU PF have those rights protected. The Mugabe’s run that country like their own personal fiefdom. They take what they want and trample on anyone that opposes them and in the process they have ruined that once prosperous and wonderful country. If just a small percentage of the diamond money, that has just disappeared were to enter the coffers, that country would be able to pay its way. It does not take a rocket scientist to know were all that money has gone! Zimbabwe is a kleptocracy presided over by Mugabe, his family and cronies and the population that has not been able to flee are terrified of his terror network. He will be right at the top of the list of Africa’s worst sons. What has happened there is a sin against the planet and Zimbabwe’s people’s.

Thanking Bob for all the good things he has done???? For may year in Kensington shopping Centre there was an elderly gogo selling tomatoes. She should have been confortably retired a long time ago. I used to support her as much as I could and now she is no longer there. Yesterday I asked one of the vendors where she was. He told me that she had gone kumusha-Goromonzi-because she had gone blind. He told me that she had been the sole breadwinner of the family. I am haunted by this story. This is bob’s legacy! This is Zanu PF’s legacy! This is our so called liberation! Surely God is an angry God. May He, in His mercy provide for this noble old gogo. She is a true picture of our nation. Shame on you Z
