MDC-T plans mass demos

THE main opposition MDC-T has threatened to roll out a series of mass protests soon to force the Zanu PF government to urgently address the worsening economic situation.

BY MOSES MATENGA

MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu told NewsDay yesterday that the party’s organising department and youth wing were seized with logistical arrangements.

“That’s an ongoing thing,” he said.

“The organising department is working on that. It is indeed work in progress. And in a few weeks you will see something on the ground.”

MDC-T has for the past two years been threatening mass demonstrations over the deteriorating economic conditions, but so far nothing has materialised.

Gutu said top among their grievances was Zanu PF’s failure to provide the 2,2 million jobs and houses the party promised in the run-up to 2013 general elections.

As part of resolutions from its last congress, the MDC-T said it would engage in mass protests despite police threats to crush the demonstrations.

MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai early this year warned that the demonstrations should be well-timed to avoid playing into Zanu PF’s hands.

“The issue of mass demonstrations is always on the agenda, but it should not be an emotional reaction. There is always need to assess the timing of such an action and what we want to achieve by such (street protests),” he said then, while addressing party supporters in Gweru.

“People should be made aware of the outcome of that action.”

Oh please you idiots, just tell every body to stay at home. Then wait and see how far the police can go from door to door with button sticks telling them to go to work( if they have job) or to school etc.Although I believe most of the police would rather stay at home too.

No one works in Zimbabwe they just wait for the next loan or donation from some stupid lender of donor. This is then dispensed depending on the praises one has sung in favour of Mugabe.
It doesn’t matter if they stay at home or go to work there is no economy anymore.
There isn’t much electricity either so sitting in an office can be quite uncomfortable. Better to sit under a tree if there are any left.

    MDC-T has little credibility left.
And every time it calls for mass demonstrations, but does nothing, that little bit of credibility erodes even more.
