Moyo a ‘chancer, nuisance’: Minister

FIERY Zanu PF politburo member Christopher Mutsvangwa has launched a scathing attack on fellow top party politician Jonathan Moyo whom he described as a power hungry lout for allegedly sponsoring divisions in the party.

The War Veterans Minister told South African News Channel ANN7TV Thursday that, Moyo, who is also Higher Education Minister, was a chancer who dodged the liberation war, hence lacking political legitimacy.

Mutsvangwa did not name Moyo, but by targeting “an errant professor” in the ruling party, he left little to the imagination.

Asked what he knew about a group of adventurous young Turks known as Generation 40, Mutsvangwa spilled out, dismissing the group as hungry louts led by “an errant professor” who was abusing the First Lady, Grace Mugabe’s name to achieve personal ambitions.

“I don’t know about the Generation 40; they are just a nuisance in the party,” Mutsvangwa said of a group that also involves current Zanu PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere.

He added, “There is no institution or organ of the party called Generation 40.

“We have only a youth wing, a women’s wing, the main wing and of course the war veterans; that’s what we know in Zanu PF.

War absconder

“These other acronyms of divisionists, they are coming from power hungry louts; some of them are misguided by errant professors from nowhere who have wormed their way into the party.

“You know they absconded from the war when sovereignty was at stake, when there was need for courage and sacrifice to fight for Zimbabwe; they ran away, now they are trying to bask in new found glory by being associated with (the party).”

Mutsvangwa, an ally to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is keenly eying President Robert Mugabe’s job, did not mention Moyo’s name.

However, the former University of Zimbabwe political science professor has often been accused of dodging the war and going to study in the United States.

Moyo, on his part, has taken to twitter to attack Mnangagwa, whom he also accuses of being impatient to succeed President Mugabe.

Moyo has used every opportunity to remind Mnangagwa he was merely an appointee who should, if anything, try to use his own political clout to climb to the apex of the political ladder.

In her Manicaland address Thursday, Mugabe’s wife, Grace, ranted at unnamed party politicians she said were fanning factionalism in the troubled party.
