Threats, intimidation in Marondera

via Threats, intimidation in Marondera – The Zimbabwean 2.9.2015

Last Friday the Zanu (PF) candidate for Marondera Central constituency, Lawrence Katsiru, allegedly sent Zanu (PF) youths to check on the number of people who had registered to vote in the by-election scheduled for 19 September.

Residents in the Marondera suburbs of Dombotombo, Yellow City, Rusike Phase 1 and Morningside were visited by Zanu (PF) youths who demanded to see their registration slips. Zanu (PF) officials in the area, Wiseman Rumwenje, Maria Hove and Margaret Phiri, were moving around with three counter books recording names of residents who had registered and noting down their registration numbers.
It had been indicated that the registration numbers were going to be checked after voting and those not on the list would be followed up. Cases of threats and intimidation have been reported in Marondera Central as Katsiru has vowed to deal with those who try to stop his aspirations of being a Member of Parliament.
