We are at rock bottom: Mnangagwa

via We are at rock bottom: Mnangagwa – NewsDay Zimbabwe August 15, 2015

VICE-PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnanagagwa yesterday admitted that the economy has hit rock bottom as a result of the land reform programme launched in 2000.

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

Speaking in Kwekwe during the official opening of Dazzle Super Supermarkets, Mnangagwa said it was now time the country joined other nations on an economic recovery path.

“We are at the bottom of the pit, but we are rising with pride because we now control our own destiny and resources as a proud black people,”Mnangagwa said.

“We are going through a painful time in our history in which we have seen our people lose jobs and companies closing down in the Midlands and the rest of the country.

“This is because of the land redistribution exercise which was put in place by our resolute leader President Robert Mugabe and we were hit by sanctions, forcing company closures and loss of jobs.”

Mnangagwa said Mugabe had entrusted him with leading the country’s economic recovery.

“In the next few weeks we will be announcing the takeover of Cottco by the government so that we can drive the prices of cotton in this country. We want to ensure that the clothing industry is viable again with cotton being beneficiated here instead of being exported,” he said.

The supermarket chain is jointly owned by South African-based Advance Africa and a Zimbabwean consortium. The $4 million investment by Advance Africa has created 100 jobs in Kwekwe just weeks after 400 people lost their jobs at Zimasco.

Mnangagwa, who twice lost the bid to represent Kwekwe as an MP after being defeated by Blessing Chebundo of the opposition MDC-T, said he was no longer bitter about his defeat.

“Don’t be worried that at one time you forgot about me and ousted me from Parliament because I have not forgotten you,” he said.

No you thug (the murderer of 20000-30000 innocent civilians) The economy is in the state it is because of unbridled greed, corruption, incompetence and downright stupidity of you and your mafia kin. You are also the most racist regime on the planet. No wonder the only countries that want anything to do with you are the pariahs of the world- North Korea, Iran, Cuba etc. Did you not also tell the west to go to hell and that answers were to be found in the east (where the sun rises) Has China and all the eastern tigers applied sanctions against Zimbabwe? NO they haven’t!-so that is your argument blown out of the water. I hope the day comes when they string you up to the nearest traffic light-you and your filthy murdering zanu brethren.

This is a clear admission that Zimbabwe is now a damping ground for S African cheap Chinese goods which create cheap quality jobs like shelf girls and boys. You lose 400 jobs in a few days and then you become proud of only creating 100 cheap jobs over a period of many years. How about the deficit of 300 jobs?
Supermarkets do not generate wealth for the country, because they hardly produce exportable goods. We can give all sorts of excuses but our economy will keep on declining until we accept our failures directly linked to corruption and mismanagement.

Government yesterday listed 23 white-owned commercial farms it has targeted for confiscation as government moves to take over all the remaining white-owned farms.

We shall see in a few years when all Rhodies are gone, then you will rock bottom.

Chimusoro. You are just another clown out there that believes everything he hears. Mnangagwa doesn’t even know where to begin to start clearing up the mess that he and his brethren have made. Why take over Cottco – the government haven’t got one example of a parastatal that has been successful. You can’t drive up prices – this idiot doesn’t even understand basic economics. The likes of you believe “he is trying”, the only thing he is trying to do is to line his own pockets while he can.
