MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday said his party will not wait for the 2018 elections because people will die of hunger considering the rate at which the economy is deteriorating in the country.
Addressing thousands of party supporters at a rally at Dewure Business Centre in Gutu, Tsvangirai said it was his party’s responsibility to take action and bring change to the country.
“We cannot afford to wait for 2018 when the country is deteriorating economically like this. We need to take action and pressurise Mugabe and his Zanu PF to come to his right state of mind and improve the situation in the country, otherwise we all perish of poverty,” he said.
Tsvangirai said this should not be misconstrued to mean he would remove Mugabe from power forcefully through the use of violence but will take peaceful means to pressurise him to come to dialogue.
The MDC president said he was confident of bringing change and a better life for the people of Zimbabwe without the use of State security apparatus and MDC rebels whom he said had been bribed to sell out the struggle for change.
“I don’t need the army, CIO and the police to defeat Mugabe and his fellows splitting from our party because they are anti-change, why because I have the most important thing, the support of the people,” Tsvangirai said.
He added that said Zanu PF has destroyed the country to an extent that the MDC cannot wait another four years to bring change to the country.
“Right now I heard him (Mugabe) backtracking on his indigenisation policy but I once told them that the policy was not useful in transforming the economy and bringing investment in the country. They are now observing their blunders but it’s too late. We need an able party to lead the country and we are there,” he said.
Tsvangirai warned that his party will not participate in future elections in the absence of a level playing field, adding he will resist the use of military officials and other security forces in the running of elections.

Salvation comes from the Lord, Roving A. That does not mean we sit in paralysing inertia. I, too, am tired of words only. We need a God given leader who will stand up with a plan. We most certainly need God’s wisdom right now. ZPF are rubbing their hands in glee. Am I right in supposing that maybe the so called ‘rebels’ of the MDC are possible working with some so called ‘moderates’ in ZPF who also desperately want Bob and MT out backed by some so called international agencies/nations????? Mdc has won every election since its formation but robbed at the table everytime. This time Zpf is planning a different trick. Try using some sound strategic thinking. This sounds as though a runner who is running in the opposite direction to the finishing line is being given a chance to turn around and still be assisted to first place.
Go into exile. Form a parallel government. Do something. Only outside support will achieve change. Is that not what ZANU-RF did?

So what is it really apart from ordering loyalists to beat up who ever is not blindly following him as he enjoys himself? I believe its time up for all the older people whichever party they are in frankly. They all look for blind loyalty to their unproductive ideas. We need ideas that will result in the coming of millions of our people back home. Day dreams and rallies or hoodwinking of the population by false “new politics- new economy” rhetoric does not help any one except a few looters and their families.

Chaka I agree with you 100%. MDC-T will not beat ZANU PF as long as they remain egocentric and foolish. The problem with our politics is the mentality that politics is ZANU PF and MDC or nothing. This is false because ZOOPP is another capable player deliberately denied coverage to make it look like ZANU PF and MDC are the only political parties. There is no spark in the suggestion that another vote must be held before 2018. Whether ZANU PF stole the 2013 vote or note, they have the people’s mandate to rule until 2018. Tsvangirai is given to making very bolt statements but without understanding what they mean. He is ready to “lead the country” where? Into another GNU with Mugabe calling all the shots and he running around like a headless chicken?!
The donor community were not fooled by the marriage of convenience last time and that is why none of the much hoped for financial help came in. The GNU had a chance of bring some reforms then the new GNU will have no chance of bring any reforms. Mugabe can hand over responsibility of filling the ZimbAsset begging bowl to Tsvangirai but he can be sure of one thing it will remain empty!
Zimbabwe needs real democratic changes to restore confidence the country has indeed returned to rule of law and not waste time messing around with yet another GNU.

So, Tsvangirai won’t play unless RGM plays by his rules. He’ll take his bat and ball and go home. Brilliant! That will win the next election! So why is RGM in Rome meeting the Pope? He’s about to meet God. What a totally shambolic farce Zim has become. Run by corrupt, incompetent land and money grubbers who have no idea that there will be an accounting of their crimes. Do they really think Zim will go on like this for the next 20 years?
ZANU PF will not relinquish power through elections as long as they have security apparatus on their side running the elections and cowing people into submission. Clever and educated leaders will come and go in the opposition without success on that feont as long as the status remains the same.
However, ZANU does respond to visible pressure like they backed down to war veteran demands in 1997 following demonstrationa, like they backed down on tax increases after the food riots of 1998. That is, they thoroughly thrush the lone voice calling for change away from public glare but do not wish the outside world especially other african countries to know that they are not loved by their own ppl. It is disappointing though that Zimbabweans have become too concerned about their selfish ends that they will not participate in such demonstrations or other mass activities preferring to watch others do it on their behalf and when these fail, they can stand tall and say ‘that’s why we did not go for it in the first place, we saw that it was doomed to fail’. And they do nothing. And so nothing changes and they continue to blame current leaders and castigating them for their suffering, yet still they will not stand to the actual monster causing this suffering. And somenwill even secretly vote for the monster for fea4 of yhe unknown that the monster threatens to unleash if defeated, yet still after that they will come home and type long letters and comments like this one castigating the only few who are trying and place their lives and hopes on these few and wait for the next disappointment – so they can castigate again, yet willing to do nothing.

If he thinks he is that popular put it to a vote of the public and see. Put yourself up against Biti and see. Morgan is no saint, as has been commented on by many but he brings people together. A united people can win against very severe odds.
It should be clear to us all that the fight against ZANU is going to be a long one and there will be many challenges along the way.
The other fact is that its down to us the people to demand a change, to go out there and show our disgust at the looting, the stolen elections, the thuggery, the lack of proper services …etc etc.

I support opposing ZANU but i hate the idea of campaigning for the suffocation of fhe Zimbabwean economy. Zanu will not lose sleep that our youths are jobless. Why celebrate and campaign for the economy to fold up. Who is the beneficiary of the economic demise? Has MDC recorded any milage from Zimbabwe’s economic decline? Raila Odinga witnessed gross electral fraud but he never campaigned punishing Kenya like what Morgan did in Zimbabwe. Let MDC split who cares. They are as heartless as Zanu pf. I see no difference bwtn the two heartless parties who abuse innocent Zimbabweans for personal gains. We see no solution to our country fromm all these clueless politicians.
Given all the loot amassed by Zpf, they are not letting go off the power levers in the foreseeable future. They have not won an election since 2000 but have maintained governance through trickery. Its daydreaming to think they will buckle under economic pressure, for people dying of hunger is not something new or frightening to them. Once, teachers went on strike to force government to increase their salaries, but the administration was prepared to do away with education at all in the country, until teachers realised they could end up without employment. Talk about heartlessness taken to newer levels. Remember, Zanu ndeye ropa, baba. All things have an ending though, for I watched the demolition of the invincible Undertaker at Wrestlemania by a youthful Brooke Lesner. We may have to wait a little longer for the end of an era, but it will come.
It is true that at present we Zimbabweans have been cowardly and selfish, concerned only with our own families and “bread and butter issues.” Its hard to fault Mseyamwa’s view above.
But watch one of those documentaries about wildebeest migrating in their thousands across rivers with visible, hungry, waiting crocodiles. At first none of them is willing to jump to what looks like sure death. But once those first few plunge in, the whole teeming mass follows.
We need either a sequence of factors to cause (or else leaders that can figure out how to motivate) ust to gang up, and to want to get across that river. After that we need a ‘few good men’ not too afraid to make those potentially suicidal first leaps into the water.
That is the way freedom has made its major surges throughout history. Never easy, never free, usually bloody and messy. That is the best we can hope and wait for. Unless, of course, ZANU PF implodes from within (not all that likey – self preservation would probably overcome factionalism if Mugabe dies).
For now, nada, silence or rather just noise. ZANU PF is safe after July 2013. That is why they now can afford to fight amongst themselves. They have neutralized their opponents.
