An exiled Zimbabwean journalist who sought asylum in the UK over a decade ago before setting up the popular New Zimbabwe.com website has now been hired by the same government he fled from and will now be the editor of the state owned Chronicle newspaper in Bulawayo.

Nehanda Radio understands Mduduzi Mathuthu who only returned to Zimbabwe ahead of elections in July this year, will on Tuesday be introduced to staff at The Chronicle as the paper’s new editor replacing Itai Musengeyi.

It was not immediately clear where Musengeyi would be assigned to.

The changes are being made by Zanu PF spin doctor Jonathan Moyo who bounced back as Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister, following President Robert Mugabe’s controversial re-election.

Other changes being rung by Moyo will see The Herald’s assistant editor Tumeliso Makhurane taking over as the editor of the Sunday News, succeeding Paul Mambo, who died earlier this year. Makhurane was previously the Chronicle’s deputy editor, before being assigned to The Herald.

Innocent Madonko, the Chronicle deputy editor had been calling the shots at the Sunday News since Mambo’s death. Other changes by Moyo will see notorious bootlicker Caesar Zvayi being appointed editor of The Herald newspaper, with the present boss, Innocent Gore being shifted to online platforms.

We also understand that Joram Nyathi, a former Zimbabwe Independent deputy editor, will be appointed Zimpapers group political editor. Nyathi used to be the spokesman for the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee that monitored the implementation of the 2009 power sharing deal.
