Source: 77 perish in Christmas holiday accidents: Police – NewsDay Zimbabwe

ZIMBABWE recorded 77 roads-related deaths during the just-ended Christmas holidays, up from 67 recorded during the same period last year.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi attributed most of the accidents to speeding, inattention, misjudgment and recklessness on the part of the drivers.
He, however, said this year saw a slight decrease in the number of people injured as compared to last year.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges drivers to be cautious and promote road safety on the roads this festive season. We remind drivers that road safety is a collective responsibility that needs the co-operation of all motorists,” Nyathi said.
