CHITUNGWIZA Mayor Councillor Rosaria Mangoma has called for unity within council to ensure they deliver satisfactory service to ratepayers.
In her announcements at a full council meeting on Tuesday, Clr Mangoma said council should take its responsibilities.
She indicated that as council, they had a meeting with Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) on Monday, where they explained efforts being made to address sewer challenges affecting parts of the town.
“Despite the difficulties we face, I hope and pray that efforts will bring lasting solutions to the sewer problems in our community,” said Clr Mangoma.
She said improved service delivery depends on improved revenue collection.
“I would like to commend efforts being made to encourage residents to pay their rates, including the ongoing 30 percent discount promotion,” said Clr Mangoma.
She called for the full integration and use of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which is expected to strengthen financial management and improve transparency.
“When our systems are fully automated, errors are reduced, and service delivery improves,” said Councillor Mangoma.
“It is my sincere hope that after the recent ERP workshop, more effort is being made to ensure the system is fully integrated and fully utilised,” said Cllr Mangoma.
She said council needs to work extra hard to improve service delivery.
“As you are aware, the performance of this council and my own performance as the mayor of Chitungwiza are measured by the work we do for the people,” she said
“Management must continue working hard and remain committed to achieving better results. This year, I will ensure that your next performance contracts are signed before me because we want to improve our performance as the Municipality of Chitungwiza.
“Although we improved our ranking, we still need to work harder so that Chitungwiza can be recognised among the best performing councils in our country.”
