ZIMBABWE’S qualification for the World Amateur Golf Team Championship, set to be held in Singapore from October 5-11, has given local tournaments credence and will go a long way in improving the local game.
The road to qualification was based on the local tournaments registered on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Zimbabwe, sending a three-man team and two officials — a coach and a head of delegation, will be making their third appearance after 2021 and 2023.
The competition will only have 36 countries and the format of play will be stroke play over four rounds.
ZGA president Blessing Gandawa said they are happy with the qualification and will join South Africa and Uganda for the prestigious tournament.
“Our qualification is not only a source of joy and pride to the generality of the population, but it also presents the local corporate world with an unmatched and unparalleled opportunity to partner us.
“It is in this regard that I would like to appeal to the captains of Industry consider partnering with us so that together we can expose Zimbabwe to the entire global stage.
“Now that the die has been cast, it is upon each and one of us to play their part in ensuring that Team Zimbabwe shines at this important global competition which will put the name of our beloved country on the world map,” said Gandawa.
