THE recruitment of Government workers is open to all and the process is transparent as the State selects its workforce from a “pool”in which any job seeker can register online to be considered for any arising vacancy.

Secretary for Public Service Commission Dr Tsitsi Choruma in a statement said the job seekers would be considered whenever vacancies arose. “The Public Service Commission uses a system of candidate registration, which puts all interested candidates into a pool for consideration for employment into the Zimbabwe Public Service, including teachers, whenever vacancies arise,” she said.

“Candidates are then selected from the pool depending on the requirements of the position. Candidates are, therefore, required to register with the Public Service Commission through the Government of Zimbabwe e-Services portal, ZimConnect.

“All candidates who face challenges with the online system should seek assistance from their nearest PSC provincial or district offices. Members are advised to submit requests on the PSC WhatsApp numbers only if they are unable to visit the nearest provincial and district office.

All PSC offices are now fully capacitated to handle registration issues.”

Meanwhile, the Government is committed to improving the welfare of workers.

Apart from the salaries, the Government is already offering its workers allowances in foreign currency, with the lowest paid pocketing about US$250 monthly.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima last week said the salary review was being worked out.

“The percentage is subject to negotiation in the National Joint Negotiating Council,” he said. “As for the time frame, we will convene the NJNC as soon as the framework is provided by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Within the next two weeks the NJNC will have met.” The latest offer by the Government was a 100 percent pay increase for civil servants which matched the tabled proposal from workers during their NJNC.

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Union chairperson Mrs Cecilia Alexander said it was their hope that Government would review both the local currency and forex components.
