Today, I mourn not only a distinguished leader and scholar, but a man I proudly called Dad.
Dr Robbie Matongo Mupawose lived a life of purpose, excellence, and service. His achievements are written in the history of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, agriculture, business, and national development and land audit, but those who knew him personally experienced something even greater—his wisdom, humility, and unwavering commitment to uplifting others.
He was a man who believed that knowledge was meant to serve people. Through his leadership, mentorship, and vision, he touched countless lives and helped shape generations of professionals, farmers, researchers, and leaders. His influence extended far beyond boardrooms and institutions; it reached into homes, communities and hearts.
To me, he represented strength with gentleness, authority with humility, and success with service. He showed me that true greatness is not measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the lives we impact and the legacy we leave behind.
His journey was one of faith, discipline, and dedication. He carried himself with dignity and remained committed to the advancement of others. Many knew him as a leader, an agronomist, a mentor and a statesman.
I knew him as a father whose guidance and example will remain with me forever.
While his passing leaves a deep void, his legacy cannot die. It lives on in the institutions he strengthened, the people he mentored, the family he loved, and the values he imparted to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Today, I am grateful to the man I called father for his wisdom, his encouragement, his example and his belief in people. I thank him for showing us what it means to live a life of significance.
He fought a good fight.
He has finished his race.
He has left his mark.
I know his soul rests in eternal peace.
Forever remembered.
Forever respected.
Forever loved.
