THE United Nations has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Zimbabwe’s development agenda through technical expertise and strategic partnerships.

Speaking on behalf of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office at a National Development Strategy 2 Indicators Handbook workshop in Mutare yesterday, data management, results monitoring and reporting specialist Ms Getrude Matsika said the UN’s support focused on strengthening data-driven decision-making and leveraging digital solutions to improve service delivery.

“As the United Nations in Zimbabwe, we stand ready, through the Resident Coordinator’s Office and the UN country team, to support the Government by providing technical expertise to strengthen the use of data to inform decision-making and monitor progress on the NDS2 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leverage digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery as well as promote innovative approaches to address complex development challenges,” she said.

“Our technical expertise will also help anticipate risks and opportunities to ensure resilient and sustainable development outcomes, apply behavioural science to improve policy uptake and foster citizen engagement.

“Through these efforts, we aim to partner with the Government in advancing evidence-based, innovative, and inclusive development for the benefit of all Zimbabweans.”

Ms Matsika commended the country for strengthening national results tracking under NDS2, calling recent improvements to monitoring systems a significant milestone in advancing evidence-based development.

She said the development of the NDS2 Key Performance Indicators Handbook reflects strong commitment and leadership by the Government in ensuring that national progress is effectively measured and communicated.

“This is not just another activity ticked off the list; it is a real milestone. It shows a genuine desire to strengthen how the country tracks and demonstrates results, and that deserves recognition,” she said.

Ms Matsika highlighted Zimbabwe’s inclusive approach, which brings ministries together through thematic groups to create a unified results framework, saying such collaboration ensures Government programmes are aligned with measurable outcomes that directly affect citizens.
