ZANU PF Harare Province has set an ambitious target to mobilise 600 000 party members before the National Cell Day, slated for June 30 this year, as the revolutionary party moves to solidify its structures in the capital.
The party is currently seized with a cell verification exercise aimed at authenticating party structures and weeding out anomalies.
Addressing ZANU PF affiliate organisation chairpersons at the provincial party headquarters in Harare yesterday, provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said affiliates were expected to play a pivotal role in the membership drive.
“We have been tasked by the party leadership to mobilise at least 600 000 members in Harare by June 30 this year,” he said.
He urged all affiliate organisations to suspend any other activities and concentrate on party mobilisation.
“They should come up with their registered membership. We expect them to fish their members from the opposition pool or fresh from colleges or high schools,” said Cde Masimirembwa.
He, however, said affiliates were eager to work with the party even as they await approval.
“We are saying, let’s work together on recruiting new members into the party. The whole purpose of this meeting was to work throughout, so that by the end of June, we can achieve our target: to increase the party membership in Harare to 600 000,” he said.
The province has directed all affiliates to suspend other activities and focus on mobilising party membership. Cde Masimirembwa said there was need to reinvigorate cell structures to ensure the National Cell Day, to be held at the end of June, becomes a resounding success.
“Those with pending programmes should suspend them with immediate effect. We are going to focus on recruiting new members into the party so that we grow our party membership in Harare. In terms of restructuring, the current position is that the party headquarters is digitalising. Names are being captured into the computer. There could be various mistakes, and these are brought to the attention of the provinces so that we can rectify them. This includes errors that may occur when capturing a person’s national ID number or the correct names of individuals, because we want accurate records,” he said.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF Harare provincial political commissar Cde Voyage Dambuza issued a stern warning to affiliate organisations that are idolising certain individuals in exchange for money, saying the practice must stop forthwith.
“The challenge we are facing is that some affiliates are receiving cash from individuals to promote themselves.
“All organisations registered under ZANU PF should remain faithful to President Mnangagwa. We want affiliates to be found praising the good works of the President.
“We expect affiliate organisations to go out and educate the public about the achievements of the Second Republic. It is the duty of affiliate organisations to represent the party on different platforms,” said Cde Dambuza.
