Zimbabwe: Survivors still seek justice for Matabeleland killings

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was state security minister in the 1980s when at least 20,000 people were killed by the army, leading some to question if he can reform the country, given his past political allegiances.

Some in Zimbabwe question if President Emmerson Mnangagwa can sufficiently reform the country, given his controversial history as a close ally of long-time leader Robert Mugabe.

At least 20,000 people were killed by the army when Mnangagwa was the state security minister in the 1980s.

Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb spoke to some of the survivors, who are still seeking justice.
