Some 1 500 representatives of the Public Service Commission, and service commissioners of defence, prisons and police will host a luncheon on Friday in honour of President Robert Mugabe’s 90th birthday which was celebrated by the  nation in Marondera in February this year.

The Public Service Commission chairman, Dr Mariwanda Nzuwah, who leads all the commissions said the commissions requested to be afforded to celebrate Cde Mugabe’s 90thbirthday in honour of the long road he has travelled in the leadership of his people and the vital role he played in delivering Zimbabwe’s political and economic freedom.

Dr Nzuwah said Cde Mugabe should be honoured and thanked for his strong advocacy for black economic empowerment through ownership and exploitation of their national resources and called on youths to hold dear and protect their independence and sovereignty.

He revealed that similar celebrations will be held at the 10 provincial centres through the country with approximately 4 000 representatives from the commissions.

Staff associations and unions’ representatives of civil servants have also been invited for the celebrations.

The starting time of the festivities has been moved back to 09:30am instead of the initially planned 12 noon.
